For Sale: Marc Savoy 'Acadian' 1-row 4-stop melodeon in G
A superbly powerful and responsive instrument in very fine condition with Binci professional quality hand-made reeds. Even the very lowest notes speak very easily.
Beautifully made in purple/maroon-stained wood (cherry?) with brass fittings, pallets and buttons; blackwood stops with abalone shell inserts. No dings or scratches; no wear on the bellows.
Although this a Cajun designed instrument it is not in Cajun tuning. The thirds and sixths are tuned about 5 cents flat from ET, similar to a Wesson Clipper. (In typical Cajun tuning these notes would be around 15 cents flat). This means that chords on the RH side are sweet and sonorous, but the overall tuning is also perfectly compatible with ordinary melodeons playing English/Irish/European music, etc. This box sounds wonderful in sessions or in a ceilidh band, where it can provide a rich melodic foundation.
The RH layout is [push/pull]:
Chin end – [E/D] [D/F#] [G/A] [B/C] [D/E] [G/F#] [B/A] [D/C] [G/E] [A/F#]
The two LH buttons give basses [G/D] and chords [G/D] as usual.
The voicing is LMMH with the two M voices tuned to a light swing tremolo. The M voices are in the same octave as a standard G/C melodeon, i.e. one octave lower than the G row on a standard D/G melodeon.
There is one padded leather shoulder strap. A thumb strap with screws is provided in the sale but not currently fitted. The instrument comes with a padded gig bag (slightly worn).
Price: Offers in the region of £1450.
The instrument is located in Sheffield if you want to try it out. Please contact me by PM if you are interested.
