French recording #21 gavotte de l'Aven
« on: August 08, 2013, 10:41:17 AM »

This was posted last month as a tune thread. It shows the dance style and, let's face it, beautiful music

This is technically another local variant, but has really caught on. Aven is a small area in Cornouaille The ones I've done have all been dream dances and Pascale captures that so well. Gavottes are commonly done in short lines, often 4s and the sway forward/back seems part of their signature

There is also a more generic «suite gavotte» done much more briskly.

Is part of the Suite L'Aven. Thats our signature set.
Also done at Fest-Noz.
Typically the Gavotte, Bal a deux, bal a quatre, bal a huit, Jabadao, Stoupig, Gymnaska.
I dig out a video when I get mo.

This may be evidence then of the cadre of bal folk taking just "certain parts" from a wider, richer tradition?  Having said that, it suits we Britaniques well enough, as this what we encounter at festivals.

Could be.. but I suspect it has more to do the Gavotte de l'Aven is the most accessible part of suite.
