Playing a Castagnari Benny at Sidmouth

« Reply #120 on: September 04, 2009, 12:01:22 AM »

Followed usually by Ian Goodier launching into "Jump at the Sun". But in G minor,  severely limiting anyone else joining in.

To be fair, G minor was the key in which it was originally written, although I agree that it is quite a bit more challenging on the melodeon in that key than in the more commonly heard E minor for those of us who are not in the same league as JK.

To be fair, it's supposed to be the 'official' "unofficial" session

to be fair to The Elisnore players I didnt say that the tunes were too fast, only that they were faster than our usual slow and steady session for beginners which we have here and I can see that we do need to speed up a bit.

I went to The Elsinore twice (as a newcomer) during the week and I certainly didnt get the feeling of Clique-ness.  I joined in with tunes being played, and even started off a few, and everyone listened politely when I played tunes from undiscovered darkest Lincolnshire!! ha ha, except for Mike Gott who knew them too), and joined in at my speed .  I felt welcome, loads of people talked to me, certainly didnt feel I was intruding and looking forward to going back next year

Yes, I agree with Lin in that it was my first experience of playing there too but I didn't feel like I was in any way unwelcome. Basically I enjoyed it, mainly I supposse for the experience of playing with some different people, though from a playing point of view I'd rather be back in the English session that I usually attend back home.

For what its worth I  will be running the usual 'well known tunes at a steady pace' type of sessions at Whitby 2010 as well as ?4 beginners DG workshops and something at an intermediate sort of level.  The logistical problems with venues etc taht occured this year look well sorted for next year.  See website for info on whitby 2010.

just to update the list of box players on the festival guest list. Tony Hall, John Kirkpatrick, Pete Coe, Dan Quinn & Brian Peters  & possible more! The list on festival website is updated from time to time.

As the first weekend clashes with Whitby Regatta  digs get booked up early and the same applies to public camp sites - there is a link on the fes website to moor ;& coast who set up a temporary site for non season ticket holders. Main festival site restricted to season ticket holders.

Mike  Huh?

last year was the last moor & coast as we know it.  It is being replaced  by another event but I think on spring bank holiday weekend, based on rugby club & with full catering provided plus all night sessions!. Info may be on moor & coast website & no I won't be there as otherwise engaged that weekend
