Rainbow Jigs
« on: February 28, 2016, 03:03:39 PM »

Hello all. I thought someone else out there in melodeon-land might be interested in this set of jigs which I wrote as an exercise. They all use only the notes of the diatonic G scale, but work progressively up through the modes.

Looks good. To save me the work, could you attach them for G/C players too?

No problem with the transposition. What do you need doing? Everything up a perfect 4th or down a perfect 5th? The ranges might be a bit odd in places, but it's easily done.

I'll go with down a 5th. Thanks

Here you go P&T, 7 jigs, different modes, not an accidental in sight. Hope you find them fun/useful! All the best, James

Oooh, well done! I had a go at similar a few years back and failed.

The locrian (mode 7) one has challenging LH cords on a DG?  ;)
But few alternatives, 8 bass ain't designed for modal scales

Does "easy transpose" suggest an ABC version?  :P

Hello Chris, and thanks! Yes, the last one can't really be done with proper LH chords on a standard 8 bass instrument. I also have a lovely 12 bass Mengascini, so the set works fine on that. But it's an interesting exercise to work through the range of quite different things you can do with a single diatonic scale. I don't have an ABC version, I'm afraid. I've never got to grips with ABC. Someone else is welcome to convert what's here, but it won't be me doing the conversion!
