I think you and Remco Sietsema should get together. You guys are different players but you both swing the music convincingly.  Your playing brought joy to my sensibilities, which to my mind is the essential quality in Stevie's music. Great playing.  Charlie

There’s always such great response in here! Thanks!  :D
Well now I’m convinced to change the clip to public!  (:)

I recorded this with the intention of being a bit far out from the regular tunes and show the possibilities of the standard 2-row. And I suppose it’s a bit influenced by Irish melodeon music where you can’t use your left hand as much.

It’s funny that you mentioned Remco Sietsema, MandoC! He is a great inspiration an I’ve had his cd on repeat in my car since he released it, just brilliant tunes but for me it’s kind of sad because I don’t have the third row. I’m actually considering buying a Castagnari Benny 3row 12bass after listening to him.

I actually made a video of my take on Remcos “Amsterdam slip jig” recently and sent it to him.
And he actually liked it  :D
That way of playing with your left hand in 9/8 was a great inspiration for me. Everything in Sweden and Norway is played in 3/4 or 4/4 so it felt like a great achievement to finally get the hang of it  (:)

Melodeon: I picked the Castagnari Wielly mainly because an acquaintance of mine was selling. And also my greatest influence when I started to play was Ingunn Bjørgo and she has the Wielly and I have always loved her sound.  (:)

Thanks again!
Cheers!

I thought that playing was amazingly beautiful and made me want to get up and dance. It is not the sort of music I play (probably because it is out of my ability) but I was blown away with the musicality and technical skill. Thanks for sharing... you are very modest (:)

Anybody got dots or abc for this tune?

I almost do, as well as a musescore file as a reference score, but, it might also make sense to contact the guy in question, ToraderM, as they are a poster here and have talked about having tutorials for some of their youtube content.

I'll see if I can dig them up...

So, all on the assumption you're referring to the tune in the first post, Vals I Lekstugan, ie, this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvHF53aWovQ

Looks like I acquired a midi file from this page http://www.accordionmidi.com/brede.html (find on page, lekstugan), imported that into a musescore file then pulled the stuff I didn't want out of, and used it as a reference while trying to go over the video with a finer comb to pick out Toreda's solutions to the problems the music presented.

This is my very likely inaccurate and incomplete transcription of his performance. I think the C music is the most incomplete section, and, I most likely skipped some of his ornamentations or have mistranscribed them.

But here you go, I imagine someone could clean it up/do a better job. Also, GC scores confuse the heck out of me, not a big fan of that bass clef!

Oh, I should add, I believe Torader is playing with Castagnari style accidentals, so, his GC's G# is the same direction as the E major chord. I don't know if that particularly complicates any specific passages.

Also if you fix the ABC for it then send it my way because I've been planning to learn this for like idk a year now and I think I'm about ready to get around to it.

Ledger lines smedger Lines! Pooh! - clarinettists think nothing of them. In the treble clef we routinely read to low E below middle C. Bass clarinettists read in the treble clef to C below middle C: four ledger lines and the space below.  >:E

The lowest note on my tenor/treble concertina is C2 so the ledger lines don't phase me either.  ;) Anything written in treble clef below G2 is fairly uncommon in folk music though.  8)

Presumably because G2 is the lowest note on a fiddle?
Hence the adoption of the Low G/Anahata 4th button start layout by many of us.

Ah thanks for the heads up about the G#. My G/C has a bidirectional G# so it shouldn't be any problem at all. (:)

Q

Precisely, abc notation defaults to bass clef for any notes lower than G2 unless instructed otherwise.

I thought I'd share this which is some absolutely stunning 2 row playing, a nice tune, and massively ambitious.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvHF53aWovQ

Agree with the room on “groove”, and this is examplary. It would be diminished by speeding. Superb chomatic decorations, but there’s so much else going on …

He really “chews” the important 1st in bar notes, corresponding beautifully to actual waltz footwork, using little cuts and similar decoration.  There’s then some lovely musettey “playing in chords” later on. And a really smooth move into octave 2 … (so much more accessible on a G/C)

Superb. And groovy … 😉
