Hello to everybody
I'm Michael from Vienna (Austria), I just started playing diatonic accordeon.
in June 2009 and I'm progressing quite well (at least I believe so)
Despite Austria has its own diatonic accordeon tradition
(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steirische_Harmonika ), I'm interesting
in playing the 'ordinary' diatonic accordeon.
Actually I have been playing hurdy gurdy for 2 1/2 years now, mostly
medieval stuff and continental folk, but once the desire came up to play
the same music on a different instrument. I loved the sound of the button boxes,
so it was clear for me, which instrument I would start with.
Today after three months I have four button boxes - yes I'm addicted to collecting ;-) -
most of them from ebay, which I have spent 600 EUR on in total.
Fotunatly I was able to get a Hohner Corona IIIR (G/C/F) in good condition for 250,
on which I'm playing now (I have started with a lended instrument)
The other ones are
a "Hohner Club X" from the 1930 (C/F), in good condition, needs some repair,
a "Royal Standard" wooden 3 row accordeon with 34 buttons and 16 basses (G/C/F)
from the 1920s, needs a bit more repair
and a little 21 button box in D/G - vienna made (!), today there are no accordeon makers
anymore in Vienna - maybe also from the 1920s - needs some major renovation
... but I'm dreaming of a superior accordeon made by Castagnari, Saltarelle, ...
Currently I'm learning using the accordon book by Yann Dour
http://www.editions-caruhel.com/diatonic-accordion/24_4_/fingering-chart-Diatonic-accordion-tutor.--Vol.1-:The-beginner’s-book.html
but I'm thinking about starting taking lessons in autumn - fortunatly there are a
few diatonic accordeon players giving lessons.
