Best not to use grease or oil as it collects dust and forms a sticky paste - try a powdered graphite lubricant. If its a mechanical rubbing it might be possible to bend one arm to move it away from where it is in contact.

Definitely no oil!

To deal with unwanted noise first you have to identify the exact source of the noise, only then can you decide how to tackle it.  It may be something that needs to be re-aligned, or cleaned.

I thought that but the graphite in a pencil is mixed with clay as a binding agent so it's not a good idea at all. Graphite powder is available from a good locksmith and a small bottle will last a very long time.

You can get pure graphite pencil leads, look at specialist art shops - I've used these to lubricate various bridges and nuts on stringed instruments, but its a bit fiddly to get the point into say a bass arm pivot joint if that is squeaking and rub it around with sufficient surface area to coat the part without snapping the lead off. The bottles of powder have good fine ends so you can pour/blow a small amount with comparative ease.
