Warning - irresponsible eBayer
« on: November 01, 2009, 10:34:18 PM »

Well, I bought the Paddy Clancy C#/D on eBay this evening, or at least I thought I did.  ???

A few minutes after the auction ended, the seller informed me that he had sold the instrument to someone else this very day but had not had time to cancel the auction.

Seller i.d. is "lomanspark" based in Berlin. Treat with caution.

It certainly was a bargain price and I don't blame the seller for not wanting to let it go for that amount, but at least he could have owned up to the fact.

Ah well, some you win and some you don't. I'll plod on with the old Double Ray C#/D which I am very fond of and perhaps I'll find an Old Grey Paolo in a car boot sale next week.

Always look on the bright side of life, tee tum, tee tum tee tum tee tum.  :|glug

That stinks, after all your bid is supposed to be binding but the sellers are left free to cop out if they think they're not getting the value they want.   In my experience Ebay doesn't give a stuff, and you often see listings where the seller explicitly says he'll end the listing early if he sells elsewhere.

I think ebay is much less of a fun place now, and the fees are higher now, so there is more incentive to do a deal privately to avoid the fees.

How come I've got "Quote", "Modify" & "Remove" at the top of my post while Graeme only has "Quote"?

Because you can edit your own post but not other peoples, and you can quote other peoples posts in yours.

Hi to all you guys that are discussing the alleged irresponsible eBayer.
I am the so called irresponsible eBayer and
I would like to put a few things straight here.

The accordion was advertised elsewhere(here on melodeon.net for example), i cant put this in my ebay listing or they will remove it as they have done before.
I was contacted on Sun with an offer for the accordion and i accepted that offer, as there is a 12 hour deadline with ebay i was then unable to cancel the listing  before it ended. I dont need to find excuses if i have no wish to sell the instrument.

I can of course accept that some of you may have had bad experiences on eBay as i have had myself but please dont tar us all with the one brush. You can of course treat any ebayer with caution but if you check my i.d .''lomanspark''  you will of course see that out of 130 dealings  i have a 100% rating.

Anyone looking for a Mengascini 2 Row. 21 Buttons. B/C. dry tuned. Hand made reeds. Beautiful Box. can send on pics if required.
You are of course more than welcome to treat seller with caution.

Like many I've had good and bad experience with eBay, three  boxes I returned were refunded by PayPay. Two of them I put down to ignorance on the part of the vendor. The third one a very beat up old Hohner was sent instead of the pristine Paolo Soprani advertised. The seller, who showed a 300 plus 100 percent feedback had his account closed by eBay. He was from Berlin.........

I wonder what would have happened if your bid was higher than the price he'd accepted earlier?  ???

er.
I am the so called irresponsible eBayer
Brave of you to pop up here and defend you practices, but I do not agree.   I assume that you would not be happy if the winning bidder had dropped out after the sale, saying for example that he'd found another one elsewhere and therefore no longer wanted to deal with you.   In fact your practice is specifically prohibited by
Ebay's rules which you can find here ...   http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/end_early.html

Regarding feedback - since you're canceling the deal each time, none of the bidders in Rees' position are able to place feedback.

I haven't used eBay to sell anything for years, now, and, perhaps I'm being 'thick' here (if so please tell me) ...but, isn't that the whole point? ie that it is against the rules to cancel within the last 12 hours - when the Seller can, conceivably, by that point see how the auction and price is likely to go?

Just my thoughts on reading that above - that it is a bad practice, which eBay is intentionally seeking to avoid, to do what was done.

Edited: cross-posted with Gandy, above, who makes the same point I think.

I reckon you should have directed your buyer to the auction where all is fair
