Never mind the banjo pegs, the series is set in 1895 but the Hohner that Alf plays was made in the 1930s - doh!
The first tune was Rig a Jig Jig in G, played on a wet tuned Castagnari Sander D/G. The second tune was an adaptation of the Gipsy Song (in C minor) that Alf sings outside his new house. As far as I know it was written especially for the programme. I played it on a Hohner Double Ray Bb/Eb, dry tuned, no thirds. The backing tracks were pre-recorded so we were all miming for the camera, although Alf was singing live.
The guitarist's name was Arthur Dick. Careful!

And did fiddles back then have micro-adjusters on all four strings?

I thought I'd finally forgotten it, until last night. It has been my earworm today.

Ugh....readymade sandwiches all the lettuce is soggy. Get them from Marcus et Spartacus, they're the same price, if not cheaper than anyone else, and much better quality, even at Gatport Airwick. The Co-op are also pretty good these days.

went for tuna mayonase in the end....but the tin of tuna in olive oil looked a bit odd (jellyfied) when I took it out the fridge and opened it. But it smelt/tasted ok. I hope I won't get food poisoning again.

I prefer the term "Dread Thrift" myself. Something to do with miserly tendencies, I suppose...

Olive oil does do that if you chill it, it says so on the back of the bottle.

Can I volunteer to have your money please, Theo? You should be able to collect it weekly from the post office, from that nice Mr Darling who has it at the moment. BTW:-Radio 4, 11 am tomorrow, all about the Tyne. Will you be doing a Ford Rise to Lark Candle with Theo and the Western Sunset Boys?
Shouldn't that be Lard Rise to Fork Handle?
