Is anyone driving up Saturday morning from London who could give me a lift? Or actually Friday night if they're staying somewhere where there is still room?

Sorry if this has come up already but is there likely to be a session somewhere on the Friday night ?  mel3 mel2 drink
Not normally, no. Most people don't arrive until the Saturday morning. Nothing to stop you organising one though, if you feel like it. The main session is on Saturday lunch time.

Concertina-playing friend and I will be around Sandy, if you want to meet up somewhere. We're staying in the Travelodge though, and don't know any local music-friendly pubs  Roll Eyes

You would think there would be plenty of people around for a Friday night session - we're having to stay Friday, because driving over on the Saturday morning would mean leaving way before dawn  Shocked Surely we're not the only ones who travel from afar? (Steve...).

Thanks Ellie. I'm not too far away really but it would still mean leaving at silly o'clock on Saturday morning. Just thought too that there might be a few who go there on the Friday eve. I will be in Stowmarket but I've not been there before so maybe someone can recommend a good pub or two.  mel2 mel3 drink

Cheers

I'm staying just a few miles from Stowmarket on Friday night, so I think we should be able to organise a small melnetters get-together.
Just need someone with local knowledge to suggest a music friendly pub in Stowmarket.

Alternatively we meet up with Chas and Jan at their B&B, and then hunt in a pack  mel2 mel3 mel2 mel3

Sandy is there too. drink We should be eating across the road and down a bit,  Don't know the name of the pub blush  But the Abbots Ale is across the road again. Cold try there. drink  I'll check google earth for some pub names.  drink

Edited to add :

Ok the pub we ate in is, "The Gladstone Arms" on Ipswich road. Pub with Abbots is across the road from that.

Although when we were there in October '08 we had a session in the Royal William. Over by the railway station somewhere.

Katie would know better than I.

If we were allowed to play a few tunes at the Royal William it would be the best choice from a beer and atmosphere perspective

OK, I'm definitely going up Friday, staying at the Cedars (Verandah House is full, but they did sound lovely). So I'd be up for a session if we can find somewhere to have one.

If we can't find anywhere to have a session, I would also be up for an ale or two...

Got my CDs through today. Luckily, I only have three tunes to learn, one of which I know well anyway. I will give learning Rees' afternoon tunes by ear a go, but I may have to source the dots from somewhere as my ability to pick tunes up by ear and keep them there isn't great!
