thought i would throw this into the mix, i play solely irish music on a d/g box both with a band and in the odd session, and rarely is there a need to play the bass side of things for irish music. the odd light push or draw in the second part of a jig or reel generaly is sufficiant.if you decide to go for the full oom pah stile of bass playing you will quickly find you are turning classic irish dance music into morris dances!, not ideal unless this is the style your looking for. i sometimes do this for fun!at the end of a session when everyone has had to much to drink, or in a session where ther is a definate clique and you have been blanked! this usualy uppsets the applecart a treat.good look whatever you decide.

I play Anglo concertina and box too and have learned a lot from listening to Irish pipers where drones and regulators for chords can be used  ( hopefully sensitively!)
