You know you've just given me an idea....my sister plays a woodie guthrie tune 'this land is my land' on guitar and I always think it sounds like you are my sunshine and sing it which annoys her. lol! Now I'll play it on melodeon...even better.  Evil

Not sure what irritates her though it being a different tune or that my singing sounds like a cat in a mangle.

the tune for wooden heart is  an old German folk song Muss ich Denn.  There are many songs that reuse old traditional tunes  eg  The Road to the Isles is the name of the song not the tune , the tune being the Burning Sands of Egypt.

Fiddler's Green, These Are My Mountains? Fairly easy on a harmonica anyway. I'll soon discover if easy or not on a melodeon as I've acquired an old Hohner.

Indeed. The Ghestapo didn't play accordion (at least when on duty). Which reminds me - Deutschland über alles is another nice tune in chords (which means you play the chords and cross the rows).  Evil

Were the Liliput/Presciosa not specially made for the military?

In these more politically correct days the tune is called Das Deutschlandlied (The Song of Germany)

Don't think the 2nd one would be appropriate for me. Slightly double entendre. Wink

I've been told the Bb tuned were specifically for playing with the brass

I won't argue - my comment above was pure rhetoric

Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Für das deutsche Vaterland!
Danach lasst uns alle streben
Brüderlich mit Herz und Hand!
Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit
Sind des Glückes Unterpfand;
 |: Blüh' im Glanze dieses Glückes,
  Blühe, deutsches Vaterland. :|

or to you:

Unity and justice and freedom
For the German fatherland!
For these let us all strive
Brotherly with heart and hand!
Unity and justice and freedom
Are the pledge of fortune;
 |: Flourish in this fortune's blessing,
  Flourish, German fatherland. :|

This is the original 3rd stanza. The rest was officially dropped in 1990.

The tune, of course, is "The Emperor Of Austria's Hymn" by Papa Joseph Haydn. By the bye, aren't we just a bit risking trespassing onto "Thread drift" here? I'd hate us to get banned by an over zealous censor (what fun though)!
