Sorry this is probably a silly question but I don't have a clue regarding the insides of a box  but, can you convert a dg to cf easily enough or is it not worth the bother. I am talking just a bog standard chinese pokerwork. I suspect that one should sell one and buy another.

I suspect you are correct in your suposition. A D/G box is worth more than a C/F so sell the D/G and buy a C/F off eBAY. A D/G should raise ~£300+ and a really nice looking 3 voice C/F clun went for less than that on eBay last night.

on a similar note, ive been thinking about getting a hohner ouverture v (ala cann / bazeley) and converting it from C/F to d/g surely you just take the c/f reeds out and put the d/g ones in?

I believe Ivor Hyde worked on a replacement box for Mark, putting Italian reeds in rather than Hohner.  I think someone said it was not altogether successful.  If you were thinking of going the way you outlined, maybe Theo or Mark Rowbotham could reposition the original reeds to best effect with minimal new ones required?  I know Theo does this for C/F to D/G conversions, though usually changing to 4th button start but the Ouverture is probably already 4th button...

I have Mark's Overture here to try to improve the response, which is not good on the higher notes.  This one was converted from Bb/Eb to D/G by fitting new reeds.   I think the problem mainly stems from the reed chambers being too large for the high notes after everything has been shifted up by two whole tones.

I have converted a good number of Liliputs, Preciosa and Club II models from C/F and Bb/Eb to D/G, using the original reeds, and Club IIs using new reeds, both have worked for me.

why not IMHO use a sniper (3 free winning snipes on subscribing and, 1% of wining bid thereafter. plus free extras if you recommend someone) [ Now who wants to give me free snipes ] I set a maximum bid and usually 7 second lead time..

I use justsnipe.com, which is free for the relatively low number of ebay buys I do.

I've successfuly used one of the sniping tools on ebay, particularly useful when they finish at an inconvenient time. The problem is that they will still get beaten by autobids, but they also stop you from going over budget. You snipe your max bid, and wait.

Or just but another, and keep what you have (C/F Ericas are relatively common on eBay, and relatively less demand means they're often cheaper). And if the mechanics on the one you use most go wonky - swap the blocks, and you're back in business.

Or even buy some spare reed blocks - these occasionally come along secondhand...

One of the regular contributors to the Reyes forum has some experience of converting 12 bass Morino Clubs into G/C/F (I'd guess using new reed blocks) - being based in Italy, and close to the factories, might help in keeping the sound/balance right...
