"key mark are F1sHE"
If I remember my German key names correctly, reading that as Fis H E suggests it's in the keys of F#, B and E, which is, erm.... an interesting combination.

I read it as 'FisHE' - which might suggest a 'fisarmoniche' in the more logical quartal combo of E and B natural.   (However I play an F# G C so there's nowt so queer as folks ...)

It sure is a pretty one!

If that is the tuning it would be an excellent box to accompany guitar etc. And would be very similar to my 'El Rey del Vallenato' which is tuned F natural, Bb & Eb. So not too odd. What I'd love on my box would be a stradella bass end.

The one with stradella bass looks like a lovely box, but an optimistic price...

Anahata is correct. I have an old Hohner F#BE marked in this way. The "Fis" indicates F#, "H" indicates B natural, and E is simply E. It is great to go along with guitar, simply capo up two frets, and the guitar can play in standard E, A, or D positions. Here's how mine sounds, tuned A=440 and somewhat drier than standard:    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPLxt6w1UpE
Also, the build quality on these is hard to beat! Definitely worth the effort to restore, if in good original condition!  mel2

I have mixed feelings about the general positive statements.
On the one hand, I live about 30 minutes from his location.
On the other hand I am right now, waiting for delivery of my
first box, so don't really have the experience or cash to pull
the trigger -- oh well, something else interesting is bound to
come along, once I find out if I can actually play one of these
things   Smiley

Oh, it is too late to be careful. I ordered the D/G box mostly becuse
there seems to be a lot of teaching material available for it. But I
am quite sure, that if it clicks I will eventually want one in G/C. I have
heard that these are better suited to accompany most singers, and if
I get good enough to play in public, I want to learn some camp meeting
songs for church.

Then there is the attraction of Stradella Bass. When I was a child I took
accordion lessons. I quit when I was 13. Partly because my mom got paralyzed
on her left side. I used to bring home the lessons, and we would do them
together. A lot of the fun went out of it when she couldn't play any longer.
Also the only accordion music I ever heard was Lawrence Welk, and that got
old quick. If I had heard Phill Cunningham as a child, I might have stuck with it.
