We had a good turn out for the slow tune session with almost everone turning up for the start but this may have been just to get a good seat. As for Berkshire tunes it fell to Ellie to save the day with Princess Royal.
Alison, good luck with your session do let us know how it goes.

It went well I think. We got about 20 people in, which was a pretty good number, and lots of people started tunes or suggested tunes for other people to lead. Lots of box players and several fiddlers, a smattering of guitar, banjo, ukulele, some whistles. As planned, we ran for the first hour or so with some very slow, stately versions of easy tunes, and nearly everyone joined in with those; and then we picked up the pace somewhat. I have lots of ideas for next time! (Definitely including letting other people take charge after the first part, because I was very tired by the end last night). But by the end of the evening I thought, hey, we've got a session going in Walthamstow! In a pub with real ale! What more could I possibly want?

Hi Alison

I was at the session and agree that it went well.  Thanks for organising.  Maybe put it in the calendar on this site?

Alison,
Good to hear it went well and good luck for the next one.
We played through the most common tune sets form our session but next time I think I will just let it run and only step in if there is a long gap. It is interesting trying to play tunes you think you know well at a measured pace as it soon exposes the bits that are not quite right but normally get lost in the pace and din of a session.
Note I must practice Brighton Camp to get the fingering and chords right.

Yes, that's on the list of 'Things I need to do When I Get My Act Together' now. The next three dates (2nd Tuesday) are on the WFC website, and the timing is definitely now 7:30ish for a sharp 8pm start, and 10:30 finish.

Next session is the 9th Feb.

Again we will start with a SLOW TUNE SESSION at 7:45 for people who would like a bit of session practice.
The format will be just like the session but the more common tune will be played at a slower pace and 3 to 4 times through. I can provide the music in midi and  dots for the most common tunes.

I will get back to you on that but I was thinking of adding one for the slow session from the Greater Berkshire environs, Bear Dance.

Aye, that's a good one. Whereabouts in the greater Berkshire environs does it hail from? Must practise some left hand stuff for this month...I never feel like I've improved from one month to the next!

It came into the Maidenhead tune sets long before my time I will ask the older and wiser members. It has many names, I think Emma is another.

Next session will be Monday 9th March.

Again we will start with a Slower Session this time just going round the room. On the Berkshire tune front I may try Blue Eyed Stranger, any more suggestions for tunes with a Berkshire connection?

Next session May 11th
You can all enjoy it to the full as I can't make it and so Blue Eyed Stranger will have to be put off until June unless Lester jumps in.
