Melodeon Makers Course July 2011, London
« on: January 29, 2011, 03:04:38 PM »

Jon Eastman is organising a Melodeon Makers Course led by Emmanuel Pariselle to be run from 4 to 12 July. It will be based at the South Thames College. It will be to make a  2.5 row (D/G plus). He needs 10 students (well 9 because I'm going :) ) to make the course a goer. Cost and application process to follow. If you pm me I can let you have Jon's email address.

I've changed the title to distinguish this thread from other courses

The one-row course allowed the student to choose their own key, and in one case a completely different note layout.  I would have thought the same would apply here, but I'm not the organiser!

Just to get a flavour, can anyone tell what previous courses have cost?

It will have little or no bearing as all the 2.5 row courses were run abroad so no €/£ issues, the price will be available next week. For what is is worth (and I'm not sure how much that is ) the 1 row course cost £1200 early last year.

Price for the 2 & 1/2 row in Belgium 2009 was 1550 euros
This included all meals that were on site. We all chipped in and helped make the food. Actually I mostly just ate the food. :|glug

Pit falls are watch out for the machine that cuts half your hand off. (t happened) But you won't be allowed to get near to those machines. (Regulations)

Be carefull which tuning you choose there are hundreds of different ones.

Good luck to everyone. It's really a Buzz to make your own box.  :|glug

As there was a choice I made mine in G/C

There are some videos of it being played on my Youtube channel And even one of Emmanuel and Christian Maes playing them both together.

Here they are. Just to wet your taste.

Hello,

That looks lovely!
Were the treble and bass mechanisms made on the course, or did they use 'bought in' metal components?  In either case I'd be very interested to see them if you have any pics of the treble and bass mechanisms/components parts.

Cheers, Graham

You will work on all of the woodwork and all the mechanical parts. I.e. all the mechanism is hand made.

The only parts that come finished (or nearly) are the bellows and the reeds. The reeds have to be tuned. And here I'm sure it will be either Rees or Theo. Or perhaps Marc from France. I'll see if I can load up some photo's.  :||:  :|||:

You made a grand job of that box of yours Fidjit!!  I'd love to do this course, but I'm fairly confident that anything I made would end up looking more like a skateboard than a melodeon.

Lester, knowing what an organised Guy you are - do you have a link to the thread you posted with all the photos that you took of the melodeon making in Suffolk.  I'd like to peruse then in the light of this (and so might others).  It was you wasn't it?
