Out today! The Melodeon Tutor by Ed Rennie

The Melodeon Tutor by Ed Rennie

Three years in the writing, The Melodeon Tutor is published today 1st June 2012.
Starting from absolute beginners the step by step approach takes you through the mysteries of playing the D/G melodeon all the way to advanced techniques playing in C major and A Major.

There is no need to be able to read music with this book as Ed has devised a unique numbering system to get you playing from the start. It’s also handy for explaining the more complicated fingering patterns. Many who have been taught by Ed have inadvertently learned how to read music as a by-product of this system!

This 54 page book comes with a 42 track CD, so you can hear what things are supposed to sound like. It also comes with a DVD of 30 video clips with right and left hand techniques shown in close up. Sometimes the written word just isn’t enough.

The book is available mail order at £25 & P&P. Email spinningpath.music (at) Hotmail.co.uk for details. Or catch Ed at Chippenham Folk Festival!

Wish you every success with the tutor, Ed. From what you were telling me it sounds like you have found innovative ways to make it easy to follow and find one's way around the instrument.

I saw this at Melodeons & More and I was very impressed. It's a must have for anyone learning to play the melodeon or those wanting to improve their skills.
A really nice well thought out package at a very good price.

Wasn't somebody asking about a tutor book of this kind recently on this forum?  :||:

Bought a copy today, looks very good.  CD and DVD, and is very well thought through, as you might expect from Ed.

I also bought one, as did a good few others at Chippenham.

Ed does have a system that gets people playing very quickly, especially if he's stood in front of you! but he also uses it to illustrate more complex techniques. For this reason he is insistent that you need to be at home with it even if you can read music (whilst at the same time pointing out that it can help learn to read music).

It is quite seductive - I can read music, although not very fast. Playing in a group, I found I was playing more quickly and more accurately using his method. I am looking forward to working through the book and CD.

Ed plays mostly English dance music and his style is very bouncy and danceable.

He is also very fond of Hohners >:E

A friend of mine is learning to play melodeon, using Ed Rennie's Tutor, and is really impressed with it.

Well done Ed... proper job!

I picked up a copy at Sidmouth during the workshops (for which many thanks Ed, top stuff indeed).

For someone learning on their own the videos of left and right hand are excellent and  a real help. I haven't seen any other tutor material which offers this and it is a real bonus.  I also really like the positive and upbeat style which is very encouraging on the days when my left hand refuses to forget what the right hand is doing.  :|||:
