Title: GMT or BST
Post by: MartinW on October 30, 2012, 09:50:25 PM
Just noticed that the post I just made showed the posting time still in BST - wondered how time had gone so quickly til I realised it just hadn't set the clock back to GMT.Martin

Noticed this myself this morning. If you go to your PROFILE and LOOK and LAYOUT you can set the TIME OFFSET to AUTO DETECT. Think it may have been unset on the software upgrade we had back a while as I sure it used to be set to Auto.

That's fixed it. Thanks, Lester.

Tried lester's idea.

It SAYS Forum Time 31 October 2012, 10:14:17

My clock here in Britain says 9:14  ???

So could the server not have moved it's clock back  on Sunday?

Servers don't change their clocks - all UNIX-like systems run their clocks on UCT (like GMT, give or take a leap second or so) and time offsets based on local time zones are applied whenever time is displayed in human readable form.

I've just set the offset to auto in my profile and it changed from 0 to -1. Yes, the server's local time seems to be an hour ahead of GMT, but I think that means local time for the server's location which is not necessarily the UK!

Trouble is, Martin, you're so far north, you're probably in another time zone
 ;D

Chris, once you've made the edit in your profile, you need to scroll down and click on the 'update profile' button on the lower right of the page.

done that - this message times to same as the battered NhS clock on my wall but a quicky back into settings still an hour ahead.

Doesn't seem to matter, but am still getting head round Anahata's advice that they all use Universal Time .. except ours ???

The timezone setting for the forum was incorrect.   Time should display correctly now.

Well we are in the 21st century in Sheffield, so I suppose that is a different time zone to you down in deepest Devon.

When travelling to Devon you should put your clocks back 40 years  ;)

As Ed Rennie once said "we're still on black and white internet here"

(also applies to Pig Dyke country, of course)
