This is sad.
In the New Year, Cardiff ladies Morris will be undertaking lecture / dance tours of some of the local Women's Institutes, with a mind to find new recruits because we're that desperate.
Now here's the challenge.
Would it be possible to alter the tune "Jerusalem" into a danceable tune that would match an existing dance.
Any suggestions as to how to take this forward?

My other half has tried it, and she's not very enthusiastic. However it may not be necessary. There is a ladies side the other side of the water from you, Cogs & Wheels Ladies Morris (http://www.cogsandwheels.co.uk/), who were formed originally, as we understand it, by the local WI wanting to have a go at morris. We're hoping to visit them in the spring to do a dance workshop. You may find the local WI keen to have a go.

Why "Jerusalem"?

Why "Jerusalem"?
Jerusalem is the WI's anthem hence "Jam and Jerusalem"

It has of course already been done by the Justified Ancients of MuMu and Grand Union Morris

It is part my 15 minutes of fame for I am one of the morris dancers.

Ah, well. I am informed. Nothing quite like that on this side of the water. The WI seems to fall somewhere between the 4H, the Grange Halls, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mind you, a fair bit of dancing goes on in the Grange Halls.

Loved the video Lester.
Not quite what I had in mind but wonderful anyway.

Phil,
Interesting idea, and I'm not sure any of us have replied to your original question.
It seems to me the tune Jerusalem is in a slow 6/4 (even 4/4+2/4) or mebbe 3/2 time, though I can't find a score anywhere. Now I have to say that it perhaps requires a little kick up the Institute to make it into a credible dance toon, but what about speeding it up and trying a 3/8 bourree a trois temps or even a cloggy 3/2 step dance to make it really daft?
I should be highly interested in any results, maybe to feed into the repertoire of our new dance band, (hopefully to be known as Bentankle).

Here's my first attempt.
I'm trying to get it to fit to an existing dance in the Cardiff Ladies repertoire......a border / stick dance that goes to the tune Blue Eyed Stranger.

Phil,
That was clever! - I thought at first you'd found a way of embedding music notation software into a posting. But I realised after a bit that the printed score and the mp3(?) were separate, and you'd done it offline. Did you use Finale Notepad or something? If so, how did you get it play the repeats?

The music is a midi file.
I can create them using a wonderful piece of software called Mozart 7.
There's a simple piece fo code that puts the little player doohdad on the page.
I've done loads of similar pages; I'm a school teacher. years ago i started writing pages for my school recorder group. Sadly, we don't appear to have children with enough staying power to learn an instrument any more, although I have a few recorder players....and would you believe some harmonica players at my school.
You can see more of my pages at :-

All the best,

Noticed that the first phrase is very similar to Blueberry Hill. Listening to the Fats Domino reading might help, always wanted to play tenor sax on a dance out but my side were too picky.

Sax is good fun for dance bands.
If you play C melody, you can read over the PA's shoulder without transposing ;D
