Dear friends, I have another tune for you to fill me in on. I just *know* this one is horribly famous (although it might be horribly famous in France) and I'm going to be *very* embarrassed when someone tells me what it is. But I just can't place it. I played it (inadvertently) in a session last Sunday. I meant to play Galopede (which this tune isn't, though the first part is very close)... and this came out instead. So what is it?

I have this tune as the French tune "Ganivelle" written by frederic Paris. The version here on this mp3 is more decorated than my own transcription. I must say how much I like the rendition here and will make notes of the differences to add to my version.

Ah, yes, that's it! Thanks for the info - much appreciated indeed - I did know the name of it once, but old age had clearly chased it from my head. The musician is me, glad you like the little tweaks I've made to the tune over the years!

As said by Tony, this tune is indeed a version of La Gavinelle. I only say version since it's a long time since I learnt the tune and I've only ever heard it in one other session other than my local one.
One of our musicians learnt it from this other session, and learnt a slightly different version to mine. We now play it as a epic incorporating many variations and harmonisation's ;D
Anyway, this is a recording of me trying to play it reasonably straight:

Shucks - very kind of you! ;D It's played on a Streb, with a bit (a lot) of reverb and the Hohner Club samples. I'm a big fan of the Streb, and one of the many features is I can just plug it in to my PC if I want to record a short snippet, no microphones required. The clip's recorded on Audacity under Windows, by the way.
