Sorry, I misunderstood you. You want to put a picture under your name (avatar).
Go to your Profile. Under "Modify Profile", go to "Forum Profile Information". The first section there gives you two options for adding a picture:
"I have my own picture" means you need to have the picture you want already on a website, e.g. your own, or a picture hosting one. You then put the URL (website address) of the picture, like the example.
"I will upload my own picture" is easier - browse to the picture you want to upload on your computer and put its file name (e.g. mypic.jpg) in the box. Note that the picture should be a suitable (small) size - 100x100 pixels max. That should do it.

Thanks I probably didn't make it very clear in the first place. Still can't manage it, I have a myspace and can upload there and on facebook so it must be something very simple that I am missing. Would it be different on a mac, cos it won't allow me to type the file name into the box. Thanks for your patience. Still waiting for those teenagers! ???

. . . Would it be different on a mac, cos it won't allow me to type the file name into the box.
I would have thought you could just browse and click to put the file name in the box. Not sure about a Mac though (dirty word) - I spent a working lifetime with IBM. ;)
(edited to add emoticon - too late at night!)

Yea I would have thought that as well. Sorry about the M.. word no offence meant (:)

Yes at last. Still would not upload directly from my mac so my daughter created a photobucket account for me and uploaded through that. ;D

I use a mac and have had no problems uploading photos.
In some instances you have to to be careful to choose the correct option, whether to upload from a website, or from your own computer.
