I've noticed several and frequent posts on different forums seeking and exchanging information on sessions (mainly in UK). I guess anyone looking for such info could track these posts down through the search facility, but I wondered how feasible or useful it might be to open up a database/directory space within the site where info on sessions and other regular events could be contributed and assembled on a more permanent and accessible basis? Apologies if there already is one and i just haven't spotted it.

I think this would be a very good idea, as long as enough people were prepared to contribute to it and, most importantly, keep it up to date.
The problem with sessions is that they are always changing. What is a good session now can completely change in a few months, or vanish completely, depending on all sorts of things like the people who turn up to it, the pub landlord changing, or the night of the week can change.
An out of date session directory would be worse than useless.

This would be really cool (as the young people say) - more than happy to help out with collating etc.

This is the kind of thing that would suit a blog perhaps. Or maybe the events section could be used if there was a set format for session posts.

It already exists at thesession.org (http://www.thesession.org/sessions/) seems a shame to duplicate something that has already been set up, and makes more sense to keep all the information in one place. "The Session" does present itself as being orientated to Irish music, but there are plenty of sessions on there in other styles of traditional music. Anyone can join and add sessions.

Just had a look and wow! There are currently 207 pages of sessions listed. I question how up to date many of them are with most of the original listings being a few years old - but nonetheless - 207 pages...

Yes many of them are out of date, but that is the problem with such a community maintained database. Still there is a good number of sessions there that do still run.

Yes of course, I've added it to the General Resources (http://info.melodeon.net/links/general) page.

With regards to up to date info...do they do a session twitter, that way you could tweet the info.
-
No idea! I've never knowingly tweeted in public. :D
