It's probably not a new idea, but a few searches brought up nothing so I thought I'd share my latest fashion accessory. I find that, after playing my pokerwork for a long time, the worst strain I get is on my left wrist, where it pushes against the back corner of the melodeon. It is sanded/filed down to a curve, but that only does so much. My recent solution was a odd woolen sock from my sock draw, with the foot cut off, over the wrist - I'm surprised to say it has been incredibly effective! I'm sure there are better alternatives for the fashion conscious, but it has improved my playing comfort immensely.

You make sure it's a left sock, though, otherwise you risk playing the melody on the basses.

The lovely Sharon Shannon, uses a sponge, for this purpose. I must say your sock is more elegant.

Sweat bands are a common answer. If they're not thick enough, medical wrist supports are good, albeit expensive.

Not too expensive

There are lots of towelling wrist bands on ebay in a wide variety of colours to match your mood, morris kit. And for the full fashion statement, you can also get matching headbands :)
Single wrist bands and a wrist watch worn on the right wrist are classic festival tell-tale signs of a melodeon player.

I've used the old sock trick but also found fingerless woolen gloves work a treat.

I have an elasticated thingy which slips over my wrist. I don't know where it came from, but it has the name of the Greek goddess of victory on it in large letters, so it may be an antique or something.

I use a sweat band, slightly longer than the normal ones, to stop my watch scratching my box.
I wear my metal strapped watch on the left wrist so it potentially could dig into the bass end casework and that will never do!

Since I started playing melodeon, I have stopped wearing a watch, as I had that experience, of a watch damaging the bass end of a box.

Wrist watches seem to be a marmite thing - you are a wearer or not!
I have extreme sentimental value on my watch and also feel utterly lost without it.
I wear a wrist band ;)

I usually use my 'phone, but have a pocket watch for busking anyway, so it's never been a problem.

that sharp corner is why I prefer an Erica to a pokerwork!

Have you noticed the ‘’comfort strip’’ bass board on new pokerworks ? Charlie has some for sale or you can even make it yourself ;)

I think the 'comfort strip' makes it even worse, but YMMV

;D I expect it matches your trainers. Tennis player's wrist band?

Being a left hander I wear my watch on the other foot. 8)

Nick, that is one solution though I find it embarrassing to have to keep rolling up my trouser leg.
People expect a funny handshake next ::)

When I had a box with sharp corners, I made a wristband from the leg of an old pair of tights. This has the cosmetic advantage of being unobtrusive, if you use flesh-coloured tights.
