Do we want a melnet meeting at Sidmouth this year? If so, I am happy to organise one again, but I have quite a heavy booked programme this year, so the only suitable times for me would be Saturday afternoon or Thursday afternoon starting around 1.00 or 1.30 pm. I would suggest the Connaught Bar (downstairs bar) in the Rugby Club, which will be open from 1.00 pm every day during Folk Week and we could have to ourselves by prior arrangement with Rugby Club officials.
Of course, it doesn't need to be arranged to suit me. It could be at some other time, but somebody else would need to step forward to organise it.
So...
Do we want one?
If so, is Saturday or Thursday afternoon convenient?
If not, is somebody else willing to organise it?

Meet up would be good -Saturday looks better than Thursday in terms of clashes -
at least in my opinion...

I'd love to meet up, but just looking at my dancing commitments means I'll be tied up most days.
Might have to miss this one :(

Sorry, Saturday afternoon unlikely unless later on (post 4:00 pm) and Thursday I'm at work.

Thursday is good for me.

Saturday not good for me, Thursday might be possible.

There hasn't been a huge response to the proposal to have a melnet meeting at Sidmouth, but I've arranged one anyway - so there!
It will be on Thursday 10th August at the Rugby Club in the downstairs bar (a.k.a. the Connaught Bar). The bar will be open!
If I'm sitting there on my own like Billy Nomates, playing tunes and supping cider, that's fine, but it will be even finer if some melnetters turn up to share the experience. :|||: 8) :||: 8)

Did you say lunchtimish Bob ? As usual at Sid it's a case of working out and coordinating the daily timetable...

apologies Bob.
Just checked my schedule again and it's wall to wall dancing and processing from noon way into the afternoon.
Others will have to make more noise to make up for my no-show!
cheers

I'd like to go to "Meet Yves Lambert" also at the Rugby club at 1.30 but I'll certainly pop in.

Whoops, I forgot to include the time. I was planning to be there from 1.00 pm on Thursday because that will be when the bar opens.

Bob's planning skills are, as ever, exemplary. :|glug :||: :|glug

Off to the campsite in the morning, which means almost a week without the internet :(
First Post done! Phew.

I'm at Sidmouth and loving it, however I've only brought my guitar.

Lovely to finally meet you today Bob and I think you did a brilliant job at your workshop!
Day two of JK's festival band tomorrow. Great fun!!
Best bit so far?..... Chris Wood who is a genius.

Thanks, Les. It's always nice to be appreciated. If you want to come to the melnet meeting on Thursday, I can lend you a box.

A reminder that the melnet meeting at Sidmouth will be in the downstairs bar of the Rugby Club from 1.00 pm on Thursday. It would be nice to see as many people there as can make it.

Sorry I won't be able to get there tomorrow but thanks very much for the Steady Tunes Workshop Bob - very enjoyable.
I was the one who started Oh Suzannah and then played it too fast - ooops!

Thanks Bob that was a kind offer. Unfortunately I had a few other commitments that day. Maybe another time. I'm back home in darkest Essex reflecting on my first Sidmouth. Great festival/horrible journey!!!

It was great to meet you again Bob and attend your workshop s and steady tunes sessions, you are an inspiration to us melodeon novices, delighted to meet Les, chuffed to be able to start a tune someone else requested but couldn't start ! (Newcastle)
Thank you for all the preparation you put into your workshop s.
Looking forward to next year, John. (Castagnari Lily, failed Caddam Wood and Wakefield Hunt requester !)

It was good to meet you, Les and John (and others), and I am glad you enjoyed the workshops and sessions. It was also good to see some melnetters in the Loose Knit Band sessions in the Rugby Club, which I thought were better than ever this year. It was a shame that we couldn't find a more convenient time for the Melnet get-together. A few people dropped in for a chat hear and there, so thank you to those people for coming. Perhaps we'll be able to arrange something convenient for more people next year.
Penny and I had to dash off earlier than intended, leaving on Friday morning rather than Saturday because Penny was feeling unwell. Sorry that we didn't manage to say goodbye to some of our friends. Three miles out of Sidmouth we received a phone call to say that Penny's mother had been knocked over by a car and was in the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough. Of course, when you are trying to get somewhere quickly, you meet every traffic delay imaginable and so it proved in this case. The journey took eleven hours rather than the usual six and a half hours!
The good news is that Penny's mother is in no danger, but she will have to stay in hospital for a few more days.

Thanks Bob. Sorry to hear your news. I hope Penny and her mother are soon better. Blimey - I thought 8 hours back to Essex was bad enough! Looking forward to meeting you again. All the best!

Hi John,
Nice to meet you too.
It was funny - I had quite a week of people staring at me and then coming over and saying "Are you Daddy Long Les?". Lovely to meet so many melnetters and YouTubers face to face.
