Title: Streb MIDI connection?
Post by: Steve C. on February 21, 2018, 06:38:30 PM
Hello Streb owners:

Do I need more than a "MIDI I/O to USB cable" to connect the Streb to Garageband on Mac (running OS X El Cap)?
If that's all that is necessary, will a "cheap" cable do OK (USD 9 on Amazon) or does one need something better and/or different?

Thanks and regards,

Steve C.

You only have a MIDI Out on your Streb,  Any Midi -> USB Cable will do the trick

Thanks Malcolm.  Most of the (cheap) cables seem to have I and O at the MIDI end, USB at the other.  Should  be able to use the O and let the other one hang.  Will look for generic single MIDI>USB.

I doubt you will find "Out Only" cables

SS--true that!  does not exist.  (in the amazon universe, anyway...)
On the MIDI subject, do all the comments on latency, etc. matter for this application ( i.e. Streb to Mac USB 2.0)?

I have never noticed any latency issues using a variety of MIDI->USB interfaces (also using Macs)

You only need a standard MIDI cable between the USB MIDI interface and the eMelodeon. Connect the MIDI Out on the melodeon to MIDI In on the interface.
The eMelodeon produces virtually no latency. If you hear a significant delay then it will be generated at the PC end.

Thanks SS and Steve R.  MIDI is new territory to me. Cheap cable it is.
