Title: Poll: Tune of the Month for May 2018
Post by: Clive Williams on April 27, 2018, 12:25:37 PM
Hello all - this month's collection:

Tip Top Polka - month's runner up for the past 2 months, and played by Paul Earwicker, and very nice too... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFM_f36k42k

Banish Misfortune - from the playing of Paul Young, the first tune in this somewhat wonderful video is a 48 bar Irish jig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-h8-RdV-5s

Passepied de la Poule Noire - This wonderful tune comes from the playing of Marinette Bonnert in 21 Boutons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdkClwSu_rw - first tune in the set.

Lord of the Dance / The Gift To Be Simple - risking all manner of copyright claims from Michael Flatley and Sydney Carter, here's the simple tune otherwise known as 'Lord of the Dance' from Sydney's song. It is, of course, a shaker hymn tune, and far, far predates either Michael or Sidney, so they can clear off - it does annoy me when people try to copyright trad stuff. Nice close up playthrough here from Daddy Long Les' channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0zUbjsLRwY

Cheers,

Clive

Clive, do you have the dots for Passepied de la Poule Noire? I am asking before I vote for this, as I can’t find the music ‘free’ on the internet. I spent a lot on last month’s tune, buying Naragonia’s Tunebook and of course, a bundle of 4 CDs! I mustn’t overstretch, or I’ll be in trouble ;)

It's on Bernard Loffet's website (oh my, I do hope that it stays!) under passe-pi del neure poye http://diato.org/tablat.htm#tab4

It's the fourth photo in 21 Bouton's ad for their tunebook - not entirely clear, but readable:  https://21boutons.wordpress.com/livre/

.... and here on p. 26 in G

Hee hee, got you :-) Next month I'll see if I can find some Ciac Boum stuff to nominate which will empty your wallet again :-)

Ha ha ha - you have a wicked sense of humour Clive  ;)  Mind you, the Naragonia Tunebook and CD's was money very well spent, I have listened to nothing else since they arrived and loving the book.
