While I'm holidaying in England I'll be doing a couple of workshops about the tunes Sally Sloane was recorded playing in Australia around the 1950's-1970's.
With permission, I've downloaded and converted a selection of interesting 'Sally tunes' into concert pitch - so you can play along and get a feel for how she played them on the melodeon, fiddle and mouth organ. Some tunes I've unearthed from her old recordings hadn't been transcribed before, and then there are tunes by Sally's [unacknowledged] melodeon-playing twin sister. Video clips from a unique archival film of Sally playing and singing will be shown as well.
There'll be a 90 min workshop at ECMW on Sat 23rd June with a session featuring Sally's tunes the following day, and a full-day workshop at Lewes on Sat 21st July.
cheers, Ian

The ECMW presentation was fascinating, thank you so much Ian. Shame I can't get to the Lewes presentation - it'll be a treat.

Thanks Joy (and all the others who I met at ECMW)
It was worth stepping out of my comfort zone to do the talk and the session, and then find so many english players are interested in the old Aussie players and the tunes they played.
Plus I've heard a heap of good english tunes that I'm itching to play back home!

Are you bringing us back a lot of aussie tunes to learn then Joy?
