I have a Hohner Morgane and a few of the buttons, particularly the treble side have a habit of unscrewing themselves through playing. Nearly lost one at a dance out! I try to remember to tighten them down frequently but is there some non-permanent method of gluing them that anyone can recommend?
Many thanks
Nick

It's an easy fix! Apply a small amount (just a small drop) of cyano-acrylate glue ('super glue') into the screw hole using a pointed cocktail stick, then immediately screw in the button. The super glue will hold the button firmly in place but not so permanently that it cannot be unscrewed at a later date if necessary.

Great!
Thanks Steve

Would loctite work in this application?
-
Loctite is a brand and they make dozens of products so you need to be more specific. The Loctite product I'm most familiar is stud lock which seals metal threads and prevents unwanted thread creep (bolts etc working loose), a screw fitted into wood is a different thing and who knows if stud lock will work? It may and it may not, it may even fail drastically, acting as a lubricant in wood! Cyano-acrylate glue apparently works so go with that.

Sorry, should have been more specific. Loctite thread lock. Thought that would have been implicit in the question, given the application. Something like 207. Just wondered if anyone had tried it.

I think someone once suggested a little candle wax when I asked. Would that be the case?
Although wax is a "lubricant" I can imagine it is also quite "sticky" too.

Loctite 207 is a silicone sealant and wouldn't be suitable for this particular application. Do you mean Loctite 270, which is a high-strength thread lock? Not sure how undoable it might be, it might just be too permanent for melodeon buttons. Also depending on where purchased, it will probably be more expensive than bog-standard cyano-acrylate super glue which does this job very well.

Noooo!
Wax of any sort will eventually allow the thread to work loose and then you are well and truly gefurked* because the residual wax coating will prevent the further application of super glue to do the job properly. :(

Fair enough. My memory isn't what it once was. 221/2 is probably more like what I had in mind, but the colour would probably put me off.
