Are these badges still available. Saw one on an instrument bag today at Sidmouth and it rather caught my eye.?

Not sure if there are any spare. I forget who actually had them made. I did the artwork and I still have the graphics files available if anyone wants to take on getting some more made.

Any chance of an example, please?

See attached for low-resolution version. I can supply a high resolution version on request.

I have a friend who has a badge making business. Good standard good prices (makes morris and festival stuff for everyone interested round West Devon and East Cornwall). If you can let me have the artwork I'll run it past him.
-
Were they embroidered, or printed, on fabric, or were they stickers or what? I'd certainly be up for one if someone undertakes to have some more made.
-
I have stickers, and I seem to remember they came from furrin pairts.

"they came from furrin pairts."
What, like south of the Tyne?
-
There is no point changing your name Winston and pretending that you come from North of the Tyne. We know better! If you're not careful, you might be locked into Room 101 and forced to play tunes across the rows from reading the dots.
I'll buy 3 of those badges.
-

They were proper metal badges with the usual safety-pin type sharp prong on the back They were circular, 36 mm diameter with the oval badge design on a white circular background. I'll try to post a photo soon.
-
That sounds very nice, Steve. Just right for pinning to a couple of bellows folds!

Yer tiz...

I'd offer to knock some out, but sadly my badge machine was stolen a while back. Really bright thieves - they took the machine but left me with the cutting and assembly dies, without which the machine is useless, and boxes of badge blanks, fridge magnets, keyrings....... Not got round to replacing it yet.

Martyn of Catseye Morris can do them if we want. 55mm "button" badges, as described by Steve. About 50p each, depending on quantity.
-
Excellent. Presumably, we just need a volunteer to collect the orders.
-
Thanks for offering, Nigel. Top man, as usual! I'll have two, thanks.
-
How many?
-
2 for me, to add to Nigel's 3. It's a start for his order, and we've got to start somewhere, haven't we? If we all commit to a couple it'll soon add up!
-
Me too two or tutu if you like 8)
-
Tutu too, four me.
SJ

and a couple for me as well please.

I'm slightly confused. Who is going to be making the badges? You really need the higher resolution artwork, especially if you are going for the larger size (55 mm) badge. Let me know your e-mail address by PM and I'll send you the hi-res image. (the file size, 700 kb, is too large to post as an attachment on this forum).
-
Well, I offered to get them made. and others seem keen for me to follow it up. I think you must have missed my posts, Steve. I'll pm you.
Edit. I think the man formerly known as Edward confused the issue by crediting Nigel with my offer.
Anyone who wants one (or more), pm me.

Badge artwork now sent!

Sorry Greg, I didn't men to try to muscle in! It's just that when Nigel said "volunteer to collect the orders" I took it to mean (well!) that he'd do it. (Collect the orders, that is, nothing more.)
-
;D
You ever played Chinese whispers.

Send three and fourpence, we're going to a dance
SJ
-
Best way I can work this out is:
1. pm me what you want, so I a) get a count of how big a batch to get made, b) can give you my address.
2. I'll get some made.
3. When they're made I'll post to let you know.
4. Send me a stamped addressed envelope with small change enclosed (probably 50p ish).
I'll send your badge return of post.

That's uncannily close to what I suggest.

PM sent.

Having started this thread, I better pledge for at least two badges. Ta whoever.
-
"To you! From me!" How did the Chuckle Brothers be so funny without rude bits? ;D
Back to subject: I've just PM'd Greg. I had two of the original stickers, one on a fiddle case and the other on my holiday hold suitcase. Very easy to find the case on the airport merry-go-round!

Ha! But to name a few.... Tommy Cooper. Ken Dodd, Bill Bailey, Cannon and Ball and many more. 8)
Anyway I digress. I’ve got stickers somewhere but metal badges sound brilliant.

Only just picked up this thread...
If folks want to make their own badges in this style, a good place to track down a badge-making machine
might be the local student's union, scout troop, school, w.h.y. Such organisations sometimes have these
machines. I made several many years ago (featuring that 'orrible yellow bird that BT used to use in their
'phone advertising campaign(?)).

They are already being made

"already being made"
Wow! You don't hang about, do you? Well done.

Already in hand might be a more accurate description of progress. Martyn, the maker, doesn't get back from Avebury until tonight :D
-
I'll take a couple too Greg if I haven't missed the bus. Just back from Sidders where I had no chance to check melnet threads. PM sent.

What, like south of the Tyne?
I thought you did live south of the Tyne Edward - and sometimes well east of that river too! Given Sir John's location, he more likely meant south of the Tweed ;)
-
South of Inverness more like
SJ

Just to clarify, Steve gives diameter of badges as 36mm. The ones I am having made are a bit bigger, at 55mm. Hope that's ok. On the plus side Martyn says they are only 40p each.
I have ordered 50, so there are still a fair number going begging.
Anyone who wants some who hasn't received instructions on what to do, please pm me.
I'll let you know the lead time shortwith dreckly.
-
Saw Martyn this morning. He has a batch of 100 morris badges to make, then he'll do ours. Says they should be ready by the end of the week. He's dependable, so I'm pretty sure they will be.
-
OK Greg, I'm off to Whitby in a couple of days, and won't be home again for two weeks. So yes I still want some, but it will have to wait till my return, unless they are ready really quickly and you're going to Whitby >:E

Collected the badges this morning.
New topic started, in general discussion (OK Theo?), as promised.

Steve, Ed, et. al
Is this art work copywrite or otherwise owned?
Can those of us on this side of the Pond or otherwise distant use the .pdf and "make our own"?
(i.e. for single, own use, not for sale or distribution)?
And if "yes" does someone have a high res .pdf for the purpose?
tnx.

I believe the copyright is Steve's. I am sure he will be along directly but why not send him your question in a PM?

As creator of the image, I do own the copyright, but I am happy to license it free of charge for non-commercial, not-for-profit, personal use.
Steve C: send me a PM with your e-mail address and I will send you a high-resolution version of the badge artwork.
The same goes for anyone else who wants it.

Thanks very much Steve F. for the excellent jpg. Added email and phone #'s on the reverse. These are 3M do-it-yer-selfer laminate pouches.

Do you have a picture of the badges you could post please :)

Me being dim...
(and very unobservant!)
-
For readers information, I mistakenly only put a single 2nd class stamp on s.a.e for 2 badges. Got surcharged £1.50 by Royal Mail ( 50p excess postage plus £1.00 handling fee). That will teach me to be stingy. Also, I have to trail down to post office to collect the letter. Humph!

Don't understand how that could happen. I made the postage up on all the ones that were short. Checked them at the point of posting. Sorry if I missed it.
Correct postage was large letter.
-
Not your fault. As I said, I should have put more stamps on sae originally. I shall treasure the badges even more now.
-
Greg, how much are you out of pocket by having to make up the postage for the badges?
It doesn’t seem fair that the burden should be on you. I, for instance owe you 30p. 🙀

It all worked out about square. A few people didn't put enough on. A few people overpaid and said keep the change
the former can be grateful to the latter (:)
-
Badges sent to Geoff and Nigel.
(:)
That's every one I received an order for. Anyone not got theirs (apart from Jimmy)?
I still have a few spare, not many, though.

And here's one being modelled by young Nick CB :||: :|||: at Swanage.

Funnily enough it was not the badge that helped me recognise him (:)

AAAAARGH, sussed. Malcolm Bebb’s Koch was there also, and Helena played with it. ;D

Oh Nick - I haven't seen you for a few years and you haven't changed a bit. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing TBH ;D
