Witney Supersqueeze 2018 is now open for booking. Melodeon tutors are Simon Care, Steve Dumpleton, Katie Howson and Emmanuelle Pariselle. Details available on the Witney Supersqueeze website. In addition to melodeons, Supersqueeze also includes concertina and piano accordion players although not necessarily on all workshops. This seemed to work very well last year. Rest assured that the Witney melodeon gathering has lost none of it's charms!

Tutors all look good but I'm waiting to see what the workshops are before booking.

The outline of the workshops is here:

Lots of attractive options, I would say! (:)

Thanks. Just what I needed. I couldn't find it anywhere.

I’ve booked to go. Paid me money ‘n’ everyfink. However, I decided which workshops to attend, but found no way to specify on the booking form. Ho hum, I ‘spect I’ll be getting a request like last year..

From the Home Page click on Fees and Booking. Scroll down to the bottom of the fees section and there is a button for Register. A form comes up to fill in your choices, and other stuff. How did you register without seeing it?

Dunno. I didn’t write the perishing code, I’m just telling you what happened.

'cept it's not a melodeon gathering any more.

Just revisited. I have autocomplete enabled on me browser. For reasons entirely obscure to me it bunged my name into all three workshop choice boxes. Nowhere on the form does it say that these boxes are for those choices. Least ways, only if you delete anything in the boxes does text saying that that’s what they’re for come up. I just noticed my name entered three times, and assumed it was some error, which it is. I went on to the next page, which was for payment I think, and finished the process expecting to be asked my choices not realising that I had, but in an occult fashion.
I’ve left a message on the contact page of the website.

I enrolled and paid without realising the workshop choices had been added.

I’m hoping to go to two of his sessions.

Has anyone received their advanced music for this years Supersqueeze yet? Is it late (it should be mid October) or have I been missed out?

I heard from a friend a week or so ago that they'd got the email so I nudged Dave Townsend who sent the email to me again - I hadn't got the first one. Could be worth you doing likewise. N

Thank you Nigel, :( I have emailed this morning. Checked spam folder, there is nothing there from previous weeks so looks like I have been missed out.

Talking about motorhomes, does anyone know how wide the gateposts at the school entrance are? Never needed to think about it before ...
Hoping to see lots of melodeon chums there, should be an interesting weekend.

Hi Katie,
Ask Pete - he gets his motor home in through the gateway. See previous post.
I've attached a screen shot from Google Maps street view. The gateway looks to be about 8 feet wide in old money; perhaps a bit less when the two gates are open and there is the gate thickness to take into accoount.

Thanks Steve, my motorhome is 7'6" wide, so could be a close call!

Maybe the best thing to do would be to contact the school and ask for guidance and measurements. It's possible there might be an alternative entrance in to the car park from round the back.

Don't be such a wuss, Katie, if you go at it hard enough, you're sure to get through!
-
Bob Ellis gets his mahoosive Bessacar in there so it shouldn't be a problem.

There is already evidence of such an approach on the side of my van! :-[

Just to set the record straight, I've never actually taken my motorhome to Witney, usually staying in the Witney Hotel for that weekend, but from my recollection of the gateway at the Henry Box School, I would have thought it would fit through it without too much difficulty.
-
Hi,I get mine in OK as do several other people.
If you can get there Friday late afternoon is best and park out of main car park.
Something to be aware of,if you go to pub session they lock the gates,I had to climb over wall last year
My motorhome is 6m long and about 7'6 wide

Oops, sorry Bob.

Had a Transit based Autosleeper in there a couple of times. And got out, too.

Thanks Pete, sound like the same (mixed!) measurements as mine.

Has anything be organised for a Friday night pub session following the get-together in the hall?

Not to my knowledge, although I don't know if the concertina and accordion players have done anything.
Are you volunteering to organise one, Andy?

Just back from a fab weekend tutoring at the Witney Supersqueeze. (:)
There were (accordioning to Dave Townsend) 130 participants on melodeons, concertinas (English, Anglo, Duet) and accordions. And 10 tutors.
It was a really lively and friendly event, and I made several new friends who were not melodeonists.
The new Sueprsqueeze format works! I admit to having been a bit sceptical a couple of years ago when the idea was first mooted, but I can now say that I am a complete convert to the idea. Nothing has been lost from the flavour of the event and much has been gained. So many different sorts of music from the different instruments, to inspire everyone.
The trade fair on the Sunday was a good one. Again, so may different instruments. It is clear that many melodeon players also play other squeezy instruments and it was good to be able see and try out, not just melodeons, but concertinas and accordions too.
Overall a brilliant and successful concept and event. Well done Dave Townsend! (:) :|glug
