I was wondering whether this might be a candidate for conversion? Don't know anything about its age or whatever, but I have a melodeon with the same bellows papers.

Maybe a Semi-Shand box? Keep the LH stock and go diatonic in the RH...
-
Why would you want to? If you want a 12 bass diatonic there are plenty of Coronas around.
-
you need to check the dimensions but probably fairly near to a pokerwork melodeon. Might need an adaptor plate to connect bass end to pokerwork bellows. To me 12 'stradella' (same both ways) bass is much better than the 8 melodeon bass particularly as the choice of bass note/chord is not dependent on bellows direction which means that there is always bass available whether playing on the row or across the rows .

George, I have one of these in my workshop at the moment and it is more like Corona size. Certainly much bigger than pokerwork size.

but the corona 12 bass are as far as I am aware just an extension of the 8 'melodeon' bass i.e. different in each direction? if that's what you want then the corona would be the best root.

They actually make quite a good morris box for a PA player because they have a great bass sound because they are usually reeded like a melodeon with a separate set of reeds for each button, rather than a conventional stradella reed sharing mechanism. They are also not very common, so it seems a bit of a shame to convert them.

Well it's for sale not far from you Theo, for £55. It's too far away for me.

Well don't keep me in suspense! Send me a link.

Don’t convert it. I’m with Theo on this. It could be a nice little PA..and it’s chromatic (oo errr bit of a novelty for melodeon world...!!).

I have a friend this would fit like a glove. Where is it?

Middlesbrough. I’m in touch with the seller, but it’s an hour each way if I go after it.

What are the basses (i.e., are they DG compatible)?

What are the basses (i.e., are they DG compatible)?
Most likely Bb, F, C, G, D, A. At any rate, they would surely follow the circle of 5ths.

Hmm. I was afraid of this. The lack of an Em is a problem

Hi Greg,
... Maybe this is the one you want?
.... The 12 bass ones are nice and not that common, but this one is a real rarity... 24 basses with majors and minors, almost certainly zinc reedplates, plus the beautiful casework.
