Title: P. Soprani badged up as a Serenellini... Price?
Post by: MelonBox on June 16, 2019, 06:47:15 PM
Can someone help me on pricing this please? (Photo attached) GC, 3v, recently tuned and fettled by Steve Dumpleton. Badged as a Serenellini but after a bit of detective work is a Paolo Soprani in disguise. I'm not sure on age, but in top notch condition. I've been asked to price it but I really can't say as I've never seen one of these babies before!

Mel, this comment is in the guide for posting to the buy and sell thread. Apologies if I'm overstepping the mark as a contributor, I'm not in any way linked to the moderation of this forum, but before anyone posts a guesstimate...
Naturally one of the proper moderators can give better guidance.

Valuation is a specialised business and inaccurate valuations, either too high or too low, can cause financial loss, distress and unhappiness.

Thanks, but it's really just conversational. We're all sat here after North East Melodeon Playgroup/TOTB weekend and there's the potential of a sale. I know there are a lot of experienced eyes on this site and I was hoping someone with better knowledge than me would be able to help. I think I know what I'd pay for it, but that's not necessarily fair on the instrument. It's not my instrument, but the owner has asked me to investigate. I'm sure if someone here suggested a price that he wasn't happy with, he wouldn't dream of asking for it.

I’d be interested in the evidence that it’s a Paolo Soprani.  Paolo Soprani has not existed as a manufacturing company for several decades, though the brand has been owned and used by later makers.

After a Google, I noticed the coupler style matches that of PS accordions (chromatic and diatonic with black button in the middle) also the grill design is the same as some PS models. Just made me think it was possibly in disguise because the features are so unlike other Serenellini's I know. Nothing on either the Serenellini or the PS website look like this anymore, but there are a few out there. Here's a screenshot of the post to an image I found of a Serenellini that's marked up as a PS that made me think this red GC was a PS.

Just made me "hmmm". But haven't opened it up to look for factory stamps.

I reckon £500. Seller reckons £600. Feels about right?

The black box in the photo is clearly marked Serenellini on the front and on the strap.  I think the red one is a Serenellini too. It certainly doesn't look like any Paolo Soprani I have seen.  Paolo Soprani Elite 1 is a two row box, so I think the advertiser of the black one is in a muddle.

I wouldn't want to hazard a guess at price without examining it first.

Here is a photo of a Paolo Soprani Elite that I sold recently

Different coupler design, different grill, different shape.

Who ever made it, it may have been branded as a Serenellini 213.
Some links to images of  instruments with similar grills below, .
It may be a little "small" to be a real PS if the dimensions are the same as those on the Worthpoint link.
