Title: No more Oakwoods?
Post by: Helena Handcart on June 19, 2019, 04:29:22 PM
This today on the Oakwood instruments website:

Oakwood closing (http://www.oakwoodinstruments.co.uk/four/index.htm)

Nothing about Squeezeboxes.co.uk so that may be unaffected.  We shall see.

That is sad news. When I collected my instrument from them earlier this year, Martyn did mention that the future was looking a bit uncertain, but assured me that they weren't looking to vanish, and were committed to doing right by people & their instruments. Thank you for noticing, and sharing the news here.

I think Squeezeboxes does operate somewhat independently of the Oakwood workshop itself though, and realistically mostly deals with stock brought in from elsewhere, so, maybe that will move on with somebody, but, 'we shall see' is surely right. All the best to everyone involved!

Well, if it's useful information to someone, I've seen a few new BPIIs make their way to Hobgoblin - how that factors in to everything else really, I don't know.

I'll have a chat with him and find out what's to do, although I may not be able to post anything. We've been friends since the early eighties and it's sad to think I will never visit the workshop again, I loved the smell of that place.

That’s a shame, but the web page does now say

[Note that Martyn is continuing with SQUEEZEBOXES for the foreseeable future https://squeezeboxes.co.uk/]

So hopefully the supply of Baffetti Bincis will least :-)
