Title: Poll: Tune of the Month for September 2019
Post by: Clive Williams on August 25, 2019, 03:20:54 PM
Hi all - this month's selection!

Shreds and Patches - last month's selection, narrowly beaten by a tune we'd done before (doh!). Let's try again... A John Kirkpatrick composition - here played by our own Jesse Smith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu_rTJyaQIE

Plant un Cao - traditional Auvergne schottische, in case you're interested, that's the Auvergne spelling. Plante un Chou is the French spelling of the same tune. Nice version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AQB5Md_lxI

Corn Riggs - trad English rant; here wonderfully played by Ed Rennie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgJ5fpC_NJE

Webley Twizzle - here's Saul's fantastic version of this; mine may be a little more basic :-) 2nd tune on the set; the following link drops you right at the spot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3lrCIJCZIk&feature=youtu.be&t=124

Happy voting all!

Cheers,

Clive

Morris Pedantry Alert
The Webley Twizzle should have a 5 bar B music not the 6 bar one Saul plays

There I feel better now.

Not that I don't love your very slightly de-morrised setting, Saul.

Interestingly every Morris side I've seen has danced the 6-bar version...

Interestingly every Morris side I've seen has danced the 6-bar version...
That's because it is much easier to dance.

Eken Morris Dancers from Stockholm Sweden learnt Webley Twizzle from Adrian Turnham 40 years ago with the same music as the Albion Morris one. If you want to see the 5 bar version for the B music here we are:

•   Saturday August 31 – Bourton-on-the-Water with England’s Glory Ladies Morris and Sarum Morris. From 11 am.
•   Sunday September 1 – Pebworth Village fete with Pebworth MM 12:30.
•   Monday September 2 –Adderbury with Sharp and Blunt. The Bell Inn 7pm.
•   Tuesday September 3 – Eynsham with Gloucestershire Morris Men, Eynsham Morris and Armaleggan. The Square followed by the Newlands and Queen's. 8pm – 10 pm.
•   Wednesday September 4 – Evening in Headington/Oxford with Headington Quarry Morris Dancers. 7pm The Six Bells, 8pm The Chequers & 8.45 pm The Masons Arms.

The week in the Cotswolds is part of our 40th anniversary celebrations.

That's the 5 bar B music version I take it? Cool - you learn something new every day!
