Title: Re: Old accordion in local museum
Post by: Polkadot on October 09, 2019, 12:48:17 AM
Hello Melneteers
I am learning to pay the melodeon and so far having a great time enjoying the experience. I have played fiddle for many years so this is something completely different. Currently I have a pokerwork DG and BC (a GC retuned to BC) that I play at local sessions , anyway what I would like to ask the brains trust is....recently on holidays in Stanthorpe, Queensland (Australia) I saw an old accordion labelled  Accordion Monogramm Germany in the local museum. I was allowed to carefully take it from it's display case and photograph it and share the pic. It has a label saying that it was played for local dances in the area and has a stamp GC on the top. Does anyone know about this brand of accordion? Was it a good accordion for it's day?

The name appears to be that of the importer/retailer rather than manufacturer.
The fact that the pallet arms are screwed rather than pinned to the pallets suggests it was made for the upper end of the market.
The pattern of the forged pallet arms suggests Dienst.....but it's when you look inside and find whether or not the reeds are on individual plates or all fixed to a single stamped long plate (charachteristic of cheaper boxes) you really get an idea of it.
