Title: Hide email address from public?
Post by: Chris Ryall on December 18, 2010, 02:58:39 PM

Ticked this on my profile as I don't want robots to read it and send spam.  But a member said he could read my website URL - however email address was blank.

could you please clarify effect of this tick box wrt melnet members and general web browsers  TIA

Yes, your web site URL is there, but your email isn't.
How is that not what you wanted?

You can remove your web URL too if you don't want people visiting your web site.

The default setting for all members is that your email address is visible to  members as long as they are logged in, but not visible to anyone else, so ticking the box to hide your email address from the public will make no difference, its already hidden from the public.

If you want to verify this just log out and look at one of your own posts, the email icon should no longer be there.

Of course those people who include an email address in a post are bypassing this protection.
