Title: BBC Alba - Scottish Gaelic Button Box Players
Post by: Bill Young on October 10, 2008, 03:43:34 PM
The new BBC Gaelic TV channel, BBC Alba, is showing some good music programmes. One of particular interest to box players will be repeated at 23:30 on Sunday 12th October. It's a 30 minute programme called "Bheir Dhomh am Fonn", and this episode features two friends of mine, Fergie MacDonald and Robert Nairn, at home in Acharacle, Western Scotland, and at the Pan Celtic Festival in Donegal. The programme is fully sub-titled in English.

Fergie is Scotland's best-known ceilidh band leader (50 years!) and plays a Saltarelle 2-row. Robert, one of our up-and-coming 3-row players, is a student on the Traditional Music course at RSAMD, Glasgow, and plays a Hohner Morino.

For those who can receive it, BBC Alba is on Sky channel 168 and Freesat channel 110, usually 6pm to midnight. This programme is well worth setting your recorders for.

Not very often, in my experience. He's just starting 2nd year at the RSAMD; maybe stagecraft comes later on in the course.  :)
