Ah - someone else has discovered this wonderful tune goes well on the melodeon!

Here's one I made earlier - you have to listen all the way through ;)

I am pretty sure in the 70s Victory Morris (with me playing) used it for Cotswold Morris. ;D

I've consistently played it ever since, other classic themes that go well include Jesu Joy, Trumpet Voluntary and the New World Symphony.  Also some of the Bach Anna Karennina stuff works well.  Fur Elize (Beethoven?) I think also.

Obviously keys need to be changed!

Either that or it's a good excuse to buy another melodeon  ;)

We, the World Famous and Internationally Renowned Aldbury Morris Men, use it in a British Grenadiers, Ode to Joy, Lord of the Dance, British Grenadiers medley for Skirmish.  (:)

Well my version of Ode to Joy doesn't sound much like that, although I learnt it as a Morris tune.

OK Brian, then how about "Air on a G string" for TOTM?  :|glug

[boring_mode=on]
    To hazard talking about topic  ... didn't he develop its theme well? An nice intro .. moment of tension. Builds it up. Variation on the theme (lots of sus chords in there)!  Swings it to the left and back.  Then a section of pure riff.  Cool "home made" counter theme  on the riff. Restates the  theme: finish on the "own melody". A mandatory shake of bellows "Country Dance chord"  :-\  Just joking - that sharp ending  was much better!

Technical merit 7.6 Artistic impression 7.8, *But how did the Brit do?  >:E
[boring_mode=off]
* I managed a splendid dinner party in Cheshire for the opening
 and hope to be camping in a field outside Oxford for the close

Not for Ode to Joy - the original is in D.

Wow2!  we've found a really good medley then: Air on a G string x2 followed by Ode de Joy x 2 - heard it on the Bachoven CD

.. they are both from Germany so it's perfect  >:E

We've been playing it up in sunny York for well over 30 years, named 'Beethoven', and paired with Huntsmans Chorus . Both German!!
