Thanks Steve, having had a proper go now, I reckon there are a few strategies to cover this. The bass B on its own does sound a bit funny from my side, but there's other "wrong" notes that are ok and gone in a flash before you can dwell on it too long  ;)

Has anyone else noticed that whenever a video is made of a morris side, the mic is pointed away from the musicians?  Must still be doing something wrong...  Seems it's preferable to hear the audience discuss what to have for lunch than hear the music.

Hello Brian, Thank You for the link. What do you mean by "Original"? Do you have a publication with the words and score of this song?

Once it's finished uploading, here's my (initial) take on this tune, played on a Hohner Pokerwork in D/G:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77FkES9JRXQ

It's played a hornpipe, and as such is very close to / influenced by / rips off the same idea as (delete as appropriate) the Ouse Washes Molly clip Steve posted, although my version of the tune has the 'Morris On' A music. I think it makes a cracking hornpipe, especially as Ouse Washes do it.

Cheers,

Clive

Very nice, Lady.  I also like the version you did with your friend - she has a lovely voice.

I really like this song and will try to get a version up.  I did learn last month's song, but didn't get it recorded due to the fact that we were on the road and working for the past 3 weeks.

I wish someone would put up a version on a G/C so I can learn it by ear  :o (not interested in reading music any more!).

I could probably manage that as a midi file if it would help?

Here we go then, you'll play this on the outside row of your G/C and as the G row is low pitched there are two midi files, one in the first octave and the other in the second octave. Starting note for you is A, so on your G row it's third button pull for the low octave.

Hmm, I can't attach the files to this post because .mid is not one of the allowed file types. If you PM me an email address I'll send them to you. If you prefer the abc files are here and you can pop them into an on-line converter but as far as I can tell there's no way to save the resulting midi files to your computer.

Pretty rough attempt - feels a little fraudulent too as it's on the one-row, so no basses (perhaps there is a way to get it to fit, but I can't work it out) - but don't think I'd get a playable version of it sorted on the two-row before the end of the month...

Thanks.

I wish someone would put up a version on a G/C so I can learn it by ear  :o (not interested in reading music any more!).

Here you go, here's my somewhat Morris On influenced version played on the G/C Hohner

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XADvSex1Qjo

This is pretty much exactly the same as my D/G version earlier in the month, simply played on a different instrument. The first part is in the lower register, the second part an octave up, mostly because I don't have the necessary low note to play it an octave down! Virtually the entire tune is played just using the normal 8 basses, though now I listen back to it on the 2nd and 3rd time through there's also a passing B bass note (starred below) played sometimes on the bass when going from the E minor chord to the A minor one. You can easily skip that if you don't have it available, as on my D/G.

Chords used here are (G/C):

A music: Am - Am/D - G - Em/B* - Am - Am/D - G/Em - Am

B music: Am/G - F/C - Em - Em/D/G - Am/G/F - F/G - F/Em - Am

or on a D/G:

A music: Em - Em/A - D - Bm - Em - Em/A - D/Bm - Em

B music: Em/D - C/G - Bm - Bm/A/D - Em/D/C - C/D - C/Bm - Em

Cheers,

Clive

Here's my effort - the cringe factor is strong in this one.  I guess that the exercise is partly to take you out of your comfort zone.  Anyway...
