*Announcement*

It is with regret that I am currently considering removing Youtube user 'goldswan' from my subscription list. It is self evident that the account has been hijacked as I am receiving daily emails informing me of yet another ThOTM contribution which, to be fair, seems highly unlikely considering the great age of the chap even if he has nothing better to do.  8)

I'm very much enjoying Lester's Tune-a-day project - it's fantastic!

ROOM! that, my good man, is the Corporate and Technical Centre of Lester's Melodeon Emporium and Tune-a-Rama  :P
He means it's his garden shed   >:E
(running away very fast now)
and there I was thinking it was a secret base inside a volcano where melodeon world domination was plotted. ;)

Lester does already dominate the melodeon world! Didn't you know that?  ;D

Here are a couple of Bob Cann tunes - why not "Play a Bob Cann tune" theme of the month?

Played on the three voice Bafetti binci.

I second that emotion!!   ;D

Hole in the Wall - a wonderful Playford tune (not written about high street cash dispensers)

I promise I'll post a rendition of 'Fathers Polka', in memory of the late and great Billy Harrison, from the East Riding of Yorkshire, who taught it to me, and who is the son of the said father, 'Black Tom Harrison'.  Billy was a superb player of the fiddle and 'cello, and an inspiration to all who knew him. He's also the bloke playing the fiddle in my profile picture (proud of York....). Sadly he's no longer with us.

If you haven't got it already, seek out the Musical Traditions tape/CD of Billy with Jim Eldon.

Mornington Crescent/Mississippi Mud Dance - http://soundcloud.com/olliekingbox/mornington-crescent

Two non-traditional (now traditional?) Molly dance tunes, the first from the repertoire of the Seven Champions Molly Dancers, and the second from Ouse Washes Molly (via Gog Magog Molly). I've no idea where the first tune comes from, or if Mornington Crescent is even the name of the tune. The second is a version of The Battle of New Orleans. The B part is different from the original as I learnt the tune from Gog Magog, who learnt it from Ouse Washes, but forgot the B part so made up a new one!

Edit - I've since discovered (thanks to the Champs twitter) that this is where the tune from Mornington Crescent comes from - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8mtV4kTAPU&feature=youtube_gdata_player - adapted by John Gasson. The folk process is a strange, strange thing...

Here we go: The Isle Of France in the version from the Richard Pyle manuscript, Nether Wallop, Hampshire.

Inspired by the playing of same by the Bursledon Village Band on the WildGoose Hampshire Dance Tunes album which is all music from the Pyle book and a very fine collection of tunes.

Now then, what's all this? This must surely be as English as they come.  (Except for it having being played most famously by a Canadian!)

(I'm a newbie at soundcloud recording, and the sound quality loss seemed noticeable to me - are there any buttons you can press to improve it?)

From what I've read, Soundcloud convert everything to 128k MP3. Probably a good idea to upload in that format, then at least it won't have to go through an extra conversion process. (Assuming their software is intelligent enough not to re-convert to same bit rate...)
