Here we are me heartys, a rendition spawned by the infinitessimal delight of melodeons, a cornucopia of free reeds, as if Sir Charles Wheatstone was an angel sent from heaven. The juxtaposition of the neatly separated sensuality of the treble reeds and the gruff bass notes reminiscent of the dark tones of Chaliapine remind one of primitive homelands; the place that we dream of yet have never visited and will never see again, where the angels play dedic tuned double stringed psalteries, where a tune from Cutting can be played in an instant after a first delightful hearing, and where fondos are never warped.

OOPS  - sorry - I thought it said 'Talk like a Prat day'.........

So messmates, here's Cap'n Pugwash, with utterings, before I go for a roll in the scuppers and a heave-ho in the rigging

Next one up, another sword dance tune, this time from Sleights also in the North Riding of Yorkshire (note - North Yorkshire is a figment invented by a previous conservative government)  >:E

'Old mother Hi Ti' - collected by Cecil Sharp and published in his Sword Dance tunes book

Down and across to East Anglia for the Heel and Toe Polka (the first recognisable tune I ever played on Melodeon!)

This doesnt seem to get played much these days -it's time for a revival!!  At Cricklade '77 Reg Reader played it for 20 minutes........

Back to Yorkshire, but the East Riding this time.

Fathers Polka from the playing of Billy Harrison, the older bloke in my profile picture.
Billy was a fiddle and 'cello player from Nunburnholme, east of York. In his '80s he was still entertaining punters in the pub in Millington.
Here's a link to an article about Billy wriuttenm by my mate Jim Eldon
http://www.mustrad.org.uk/articles/harrison.htm

and here's the tune:

And finally, for those who remember the 'Dummy Keyboard' bit of the serious musos programme 'Face the Music' (with Robin Ray, Ted Ray's son).......

Guess the waltz:

(who forgot to turn the mike on then.....)   :o

A tune which, I think, meets the original East Anglian remit (and pretty certainly the English one).

"The perfect cure"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVHzmoHs6pg

Played on a Cliff Mott 'Cajun Pride' one-row which somehow I'm struggling to get to grips with - I find it much harder to play than my cheap Chinese one-row - perhaps it's because all the air goes to where it's supposed to. Suprisingly too, YouTube makes both boxes sound almost exactly the same, yet they don't when heard for real - though that may have something to do with using my old laptop's internal mic.

Here are a couple of schottische-y English tunes from me which fit the bill. The first is Foul Weather Call, which I posted a version of previously for the 'Winter' theme. The second tune is a version of The Swiss Boy which appears in the collection which is most local to where I live. The version here (or summat like it) appears in the Browne Collection from Town End in Troutbeck village which is just up the road from here. Thank you to Hugh Taylor for sharing the tune and the info on it!

I used the weird colour scheme because when I shot the footage the sun went down and went from a nice hard Northern light to a sickly yellow in the course of the piece!

Brilliant as ever.  Subtle, musical and interesting. Love the psychedelic vid as well!!  When I watch this I realise I've really only scratched the surface so far.
