Kimmel
« on: September 02, 2012, 05:55:58 PM »

How does John J Kimmel do that?  I'm being purposefully non-specific here.   ::)   We'll start with the little fillip on the F# on the Flogging Reel, the first tune played here:  Medley of Irish Reels, No. 5 - YouTube  It's pretty simple, especially compared to things like whatever the hell he's doing in the 3rd tune.   :|||:

Anybody have familiarity with these techniques?  As a bit of musical "pepper" I think they're quite neat.  Anybody studied with Joe Derrane, or those Canadian/French fellows who take after JJK?

I also wonder where Kimmel picked up this stuff - was he wholly sui generis, or did these techniques exist in accordion traditions already?
