Captain Lanoe's Quick March

This is really nice Lester.  I am confused by the term "march". This tune has a rumpty tumpty feel to it which I really like.  However, in my ignorance I have always thought of soldiers marching when I hear this term.  So something like "It's  a long way to Tipperary" springs to mind or "Colonel Bogey".  Please  set me straight.

I have just confused the Sainted Mrs Bailey at the breakfast table by mumbling tunes and tapping rhythms. But this research shows that Tipperary,  Bogey and Captain Lanoe's all have the same under laying rhythm. Suggest putting it on a Walkman/iPod and trying to do any thing but March when listening to it.  ;)

Yes, I realise that you can march to Capt. Lanoe.  I was purely asking the question - can a march have a shuffle/swing feel (Capt. Lanoe) as well as a "straight" feel like Bogey?

The Regimental March of the Coldstream Guards is also very un-march like to my ears.

I also have marches in 6/8 time (Liberty Bell). So I guess a march is anything you can march to.  (:)

Swing? Maybe I should try lindy hopping to it.
