Portobello Hornpipe

An homage to the humble mushroom?
No, just one of the many things in Britain named similarly following the euphoria of the English naval victory at Portobelo in Panama in November 1739. See https://tunearch.org/wiki/Annotation:Portabello_Hornpipe

I especially like the first version I heard by Hemlock Cock & Bull on All Buttoned Up (1981). They included a number of tunes from William Irwin's tunebook on this LP and the later Eyes Closed and Rocking. Irwin was born in Keswick - a place I know well from the frequent holidays we had there when I was growing up on Tyneside - and quite a few of his tunes are named after places in the locality. Portabello is paired with Briggham, another hornpipe, on All Buttoned Up, Brigham (current spelling) being an area of Keswick.

Re the Portobello Hornpipe, VOF said - I especially like the first version I heard by Hemlock Cock & Bull on All Buttoned Up (1981). There is no evidence to indicate that William Irwin wrote the tune. On the contrary, the fact that its in the Barnes collection dated mid 1700's means that it pre-dates Irwin. The Briggham Hornpipe probably refers to the Brigham near Cockermouth

Elderly amateur musician hoping to stave off dementia by learning to play the melodeon.  Main instrument a Tommy, also D/G and G/C pokerworks,  a single row 2 stop Hohner, and a new addition to the free reedery, a rather splendid Paolo Soprani four voice 120 bass c-system chromatic button accordion.  Very shiny, very loud, and about the same size and weight as a small car.  Now I’ve traded me Benny with (ahem) a cash adjustment, to a three voice 60 bass Castagnari K3.

I'd imagined that it was something to complement/enhance your Playgroup Elves costume. Rather like Pinocchio?

The link was suffering from an extra slash which made it a relative link. This is what it should have looked like;
