You started it!   :D

Have you heard of that Collis Bird Nick
Who started this off with a trick
of writing a rhyme
that reads out in time
and turns into a Limerick?

If you choose to watch the 'Wartime Farm'
You'd think it could do you no harm.
But with John K and Ruth
and Hitler, oh struth,
you must Carry On and Keep Calm.

If you wonder how I get the time
and ideas to help get things to rhyme,
a good education
and the lord's inspiration
works out for me just every time.

I'd prefer a nice cup o tea myself.  Not.
Ok here we go again. Not getting personal thou knows.

I once knew a medic who said
I play the squeezebox  in bed
And that was quite fun but it mucks up yer bum
So He's waiting there just to be bled.

There was a young pirate called Smee
Who took his accordion to sea
His bellows got wet
So he had to get
His squeezebox repaired for a fee.

than his 'piper can master
so when he does that   :||:  it does this  :|bl

there is a box player from Stoke
whose playing is somewhat a joke.
instead of him squeezing
and generally pleasing
he just gives the poor thing a poke!

Bob Cann was a great bloke from Devon
who sadly is now up in Heaven.
Uncles jigs he would play
at home and away.
He must have had more than eleven :-)

Now this has got quite out of hand
I know 'cos I HAVE been Bob Canned
More than eleven? No it's cider from Devon
And we all know it can be so bland

Or... I'm holding bust reeds in my hand.

There's a grand internet forum they call mel net
That's the noted for chatting and fun
Where all the melodeon players
Went to find out how things were done.

They didn't think much to concertinas
Piano accordions they mostly abhorred
MAD was their serious affliction
Melodeons they loved to hoard.

Their favourite melodeons are Hohners
Castagnaris and Baffettis as well
In fact any old squeezebox would please them
They buy them; but they rarely sell.

When seeking for further amusement
Melodeon fettling was their usual sport
Where pallets and reed plates and bellows
They wished to learn how to sort.

The Tune of the Month can be taxing
Only 30 days to do your bit
Some entries sound truly stunning
But others sound really - bad.  ;)

Our leaders, Clive and Theo
Rule over us to see fair play
But why they have not locked this drivel
I, for one, cannot say.

I think we've done a haiku thread before but I do like them.  So here's another one.

Hohner Liliput
Tiny box, but with bellows
As long as my arm.

I think you are off the thread Strig
And I don't want to seem such a pig
Because Pikey and Nick can write so bloody quick
This subject is getting too big.

Tell you what Gang.
Especially after a case (or is it crate of wine) the Limericks have been so good that maybe they are worth printing and flogging to unsuspecting melodeon players for the good of Mel.Net.
Just a thought.

Lester I think you should sing yours to the tune of ' My Bonnie lies over the ocean' or maybe Pikey could do an opera rendition on soundcloud!

One for YorkieKen.

There was a box player in York
who turned up with a 4-stop he'd bought
'It only plays Cajun,
but is that the reason
the bl**dy thing needs so much torque?'

'It says on the top it's called Martin,
but getting the damn thing to start in
G is like fighting a
Boa constrictor.
And why does it sound like it's farting?'

If farting you want to prevent a
Good tip is to learn from your 'tina:
Get your fingers a moving
You'll soon find you're grooving
In G on your Martin with pleasure.

I think we should put em in the sleeve notes of a Melnet CD.  Everyone donates a tune.  Get it on iTunes perhaps.  You never know, it might cover the hosting costs.  :)

/edit Hmmm.... I wonder... I've got a fiddle-playing friend who has some albums on iTunes.  Can't be that difficult...  Might start a thread.  :D

I thought I'd better post a reply to my 'OldMate' Pikey

Well there was this bloke we call Pikey
who's hair well...it used to be spikey
He plays his Dino with such gusto
Earplugs are a must...oh and
his poor lilliput, well it's left in the dust...oh,
crikey!
