Shipping melodeons across the Atlantic?
« on: October 22, 2012, 05:37:31 PM »

Hi,

An American melnetter is interested in acquiring my Preciosa, however we need some advice on the best, most reliable, and reasonably priced way of shipping a small melodeon to the US.

Help!!!

thanks, Andy

Interparcel.

I've sent stuff all over Europe and to America, Canada, China and Japan through them.

So have I.  The only time I've gone back to the post office, or parcel force is if the delivery has to go to a PO box. Parcel Force uses USPS as their delivery agent on the US and they seem to be the only ones who will deliver to a PO box.  Slightly more expensive than Interparcel but seems reliable.

Inter Parcel are good. I bought a Cylinder Phonograph from tha States about 5 kilos and it wasn't that expensive. But coming this way I got hit with all sorts of customs taxes.

Thanks. I'll check out the Inter Parcel pricing once I've weighed the melodeon and found suitable packaging.

The price also depends on volume, so choose your box carefully.

I 'spose the quieter boxes are cheaper ...

My experience was that the biggest influence on price was declared value and the insurance element
