Here's one recorded yesterday that may fit the bill....Maija, my fiddler friend, introduced me to this tune, and after several weeks of not rehearsing, we got together yesterday and practiced, and made this recording. We had been playing it with melody on violin and accompaniment on guitar. After listening to the result at home, I decided to add a melodeon track as a bit of frosting. The box used is my old G/C Pokerwork, which has thus far been a amazingly harmonious (voice-wise) to the violin. The tune is Turning of the Season by Robin Bullock
J.W. Forrest.....That is beautiful ;o)

And Howard.....so is yours.

I've no idea if this counts as a slow air or not, but what the hell..

Andy Cutting's beautiful tune, Old Light.

Very Nice!  I received a great amount of satisfaction out of your playing of this tune.  I guess any tune that makes you melancholy or reflective in your thoughts qualifies as a slow air.

Port na bPucai, on the unlikely combination of a Bugari Juniorfisa chromatic button accordion played by Ingrid Gould and me on the Giustozzi 61A organetto.  Slightly bending the rules.

I've been away for the weekend and just caught up with this thread. Turning of the Season is such a beautiful tune and the Hohner sound compliments the fiddle nicely.

Here's a tune, or part of a tune that I heard played on YT by 'Naragonia' and I liked it so much I wanted to try to play it.  I hope it qualifies as a slow air. It's called 'Les Deux Freres'

Some lovely stuff here! Thanks all! Ollie, do you have the dots for Old Light please? It works so well with The Abbess, which I was inspired to tackle by (if I remember rightly) Roland's posting some time ago.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments.  (:)

JohnA, I can try and transcribe it, but as it's in free-time (no meter) it might be a little confusing. Will give it a go if I get a free moment though.

Thanks Ollie, I'd be very grateful. Something to get me on the right track will be fine - the notes in the right order! I'll do the rest from listening!

Really enjoying the posts so far. Great theme.

I've re-learnt this tune from John Spiers which I believe is a slow air. (Hoping Squeezy doesn't mind ::))

Wow...absolutely stunning, Sandy. I really like the rhythmic touches in the middle part, sounds like three people playing! Thanks for this offering  (:)

Hello all

I thought I'd have a bash at this one. The Dream is a tune I wrote for my sleeping baby son and this is the first time I've ever recorded it. You may be able to hear the closing of a kitchen door in this tune as said son returned from an 8 mile run while I was recording it a few minutes ago. He's 25 now! I don't believe in rushing things.

http://soundcloud.com/martin-ellison/the-dream

Two things: Firstly, I'm not sure if it's a slow air as such but the air went very slowly through the reeds and secondly, I've recorded it on some old audacity program I found on my PC with a mic I found covered in dust behind the computer table (I must give it back!). There's some hiss etc.

Cheers

That is really a beautiful piece of music, Martin. And over the course of 24 years you've had plenty of time to load it with nuance. The dynamics, which often seem to be neglected in melodeon playing, are so effective. Thanks!!

Any chance of an ABC for those of us who need to see the dots?

Thank you tjsmithdog5 (and with a name like that you are surely a rapper on the wrong forum aren't you?).

There's some beautiful tunes and playing on this thread from everyone.

Sorry can't furnish you with either ABC or the dots - can't write 'em, can't read 'em!

I liked most of the slow tunes for this month, some are really splendid.

So hereabove in return, a tune (music film by Vladimir Cosma in TV serial "Les Mystères de Paris" circa 1980) which is rather slow (though I'm not sure it is a "slow air" according to melnet's rules ?)
