Hohner model numbers
« on: November 02, 2012, 08:02:41 PM »

I'm constantly comming across Hohner boxes on Melnet refered to by numbers, ie HA114G, 2915  etc. I've trawled the old posts but did'nt come up with much on the subject. Any ideas where I could find out more?

The numbers are based on model numbers used by Hohner in addition to/instead of names.

HA112, 3 (I think) and 4 are two/three/four stop one row boxes.
1040/1140 are single row Pokerwork (Vienna) style
2915 is the Vienna style dating from 1930s but still in use, most notably current Pokerworks.

To a degree they are used as a convenient shorthand, and their use may not be fully accurate and consistent. However, since the same may be said of Hohner, it's not usually a problem.

There are UK/US variants of the same box and number, to keep it interesting.
