Interesting Hohner 2915
« on: November 07, 2012, 01:16:37 AM »

I have just finished restoring this rather lovely 1930s Hohner 2915 in the keys of Bb/Eb.

It's very unusual and probably quite rare as the main part has been veneered in elm. It's the first one I've seen, even the keyboard has been woodgrained. I've seen quite a few with a faux walnut finish but never one like this.

Unfortunately I didn't take any before pictures but it was in a pretty poor condition and was virtually unplayable when I bought it.

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this finish on a 2915 before?

Hi Martyn, I've not seen a 2915 like that before either. It's exceedingly pretty, good work!
If I hadn't just scraped out the piggy bank for something else I'd be making an offer! (Which I'm sure someone else already has). Well done! How does she play/sound? Bob.

Really lovely Martyn.  On its way to a customer or one for the collection?

It plays and sounds lovely now, with a rich warm tone.

I will be keeping this one I think.

That looks really good!  Not only the keyboard, but the bass end board is veneered.  It certainly makes one think about how to renovate a faded old Pokerwork - or possibly covering up a garish Chinese one.
