Tunes for the grandkids
« on: November 10, 2012, 02:29:48 PM »

I have 3 grandchildren with a 4th on the way!

The names are Ewan, Holly and Alexander.

Are there any tunes with their names in so that I could learn them before Christmas?

Pikey, I know how to play Happy Birthday  ::)

The Holly and The Ivy would seem an obvious choice. Also Alexanders Rag Time Band. Ewan is a bit more demanding. The best I can come up with is a tune from the Western Isles - Ewan's Coracle.

Hmm... no name tune ideas - but that sure is nice that your family tolerates you bring the box out at the family gatherings!

some ideas for fun tunes to play for kids:
if they're under 5, pop goes the weasel would be a good one - just make sure no one gets hurt -

Cock of the north,

some marches maybe?

some fast ranting polkas are fun and easy -

Try searching the names in the abc tune finder. For Ewan you get Ewan's Coracle, Ewan's Hornpipe and Ewan Telford's Strathspey. There's also McEwan's Barn and McEwan's Reel.

There's a 48 bar jig called "Alexander" in Hardy and also Wm. Clarke ms. (different versions of same tune)

There's "Holly Polka" and "Alexander Hornpipe".  You'll find both if you use Google Images.

Sayle,  seems to me you have an ideal opportunity for making some tunes especially for them!  You can't get a more personal present than a specially composed tune.

You could try Ewan Mac's export by John Spiers (Its on 'Banquet of Boxes). Not an easy one though - good luck!
